Priority Prayer Focus Jul 12, 2017

The term “the summer doldrums” to used describe the hot, lazy days of summer. It is also a term to describe a deep economic slowdown in business investment and trading during the summer months. The summer doldrums also impacts giving to ministries.

Now is the time to give. "Give and it shall be given to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over."

A great testimony of one of the Israeli ministry leaders to start things off this week. Eddie Santoro, like many of the elder generation of Israeli ministry leaders who were born and raised in the US, were "hippies" in the late 1960's, early 70's. Eddie tells his story of being part of the "Love Generation" then finding what true love is when he learned of Yeshua through his hippie twin sister living in California. Anyone who remembers those days can have hope for the young people of today who are caught up in their own lost, rebellion against God.

As Eddie notes from his own life testimony, "... the fruit that He has brought forth is far beyond what I ever could have imagined or hoped for. We have brought many to faith, helped to raise up four congregations, discipled so many and are helping to raise up a younger generation to continue on the path God has put before us." Another great testimony comes from Rachel Netanel, and evangelist in Ein Karim: "Israelis often hear about what I do and sometimes they get it entirely wrong. However, the Holy Spirit always works this out for good. So one day I received a phone call from a young Israeli woman who heard that I can talk to the dead and that I am an expert in astrology! I just laughed when I heard her and I said, “Do you know how much God loves you! You have come to the right place. I am a Messianic Jew and I believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Our forefathers didn’t have the Tenach, but they did have faith.” I talked about the prophets and how their prophecies have been fulfilled and are being fulfilled even today. They are relevant to each one of us. Now she got so excited and asked if she can come to me instead of the astrologers." Maoz Israel Report, the monthly magazine of Ari and Shira Sorko-Ram ministries, has many articles including this one on The Transforming Power of Katzir Youth Camps | Yeshua's transforming power has been on wonderful display consistently over many years during these Messianic youth camps. Again, this summer, we will be gathering teens from all over Israel, representing more than 40 congregations. Also inside the Weekly Summary attachment is the weekly prayer letter from Maoz and the main topic is the continued attack of the UN on Israel to delegitimize and falsely accuse the nation. Read this, and how to pray in the face of this unjust alliance against Israel.

The Lebanese Christian Arab ministry in Haifa led by Pastor Najeeb and Elizabeth Atteih, continue to raise funds for restocking their Immanuel Bible Book Store in Haifa which ministers to Arab and Jewish customers. Inside the Weekly Summary attachment, Elizabeth relates a testimony about a request from a Muslim woman in the Palestinian territories, for a Bible for her husband in Israeli prison. Her husband was introduced to Yeshua in prison, and like many times, the opportunity to bless this truth seeker with a free Bible was extended by the book shop. Please read about this ministry who also minister to the Syrian refugees and to Arab IDF soldiers, their own son being one of those.

Recently a ministry friend in Israel wrote to me saying that when Israeli ministries come to the US they find people asking them the same "flavor of the month" questions, as the Blood Moon craze of recent years. She said, "What does it matter? We here in the Land, I assure you do not discuss these things, we have no time." She also offered sage advice: "Keep your eyes focused on what matters, and keep doing what you are doing. Those who come up with these new theories, as well as those who have time to read them, have too much time on their hands. There are rumblings of God's infrastructure building here [in Israel] for the huge return of His people, as well as the harvest here. I am watching time fly really fast here, and I am not the only one seeing it. Just like God had His people prepare for the returning of our nation Israel in 1948 and beyond, so too is he doing it in the Spirit. Maybe these theories are to be a distraction of the real events." Who can argue with that?

I was reminded of this conversation as I prepared to summarize the monthly ministry letter of the Carmel congregation led by Dani Sayag. They wrote, "We continue to have many opportunities to share the gospel of salvation through informal and often unplanned settings, as believers are being emboldened by the Holy Spirit to pray for the sick on the streets, buses, and malls. Unbelieving Israelis are quite amazed when these prayers made in the name of Yeshua are answered, which opens their hearts to hearing more about this wonderful Name! As a congregation we are fervently desiring to be filled with the Holy Spirit in greater measure and for the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be operating among us, in order to reach the harvest that is ripening throughout Israel. As we celebrated the biblical feast of Shavuot (Pentecost) at the end of May, Pastor Dani preached a clear, strong message on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, inviting us all receive a fresh in-filling.

The following morning ...

Asher Intrater of Revive Israel writes on Apostolic Integrity and Authenticity in Israel, "If apostolic-prophetic ministry in Israel will have a humble and servant heart, it could be a source of blessing, revival, and unity. If it has integrity and authenticity, it could be an instrument of kingdom strategy as we prepare for the coming of Yeshua."

Claude and Michelle Ezagouri lead the Morning Star Fellowship in Tiberias. They write that they are thankful to the Lord for the new people who joined our fellowship lately and for the baptisms that took place. Also that the "Summer doldrums are perhaps one of the most difficult seasons in a fellowship of our size. Several families are taking a well-deserved vacation time, which makes it difficult for us to fill their ministry duties." Also the heat waves in Israel are taking a toll, heat which almost every Israeli ministry mentioned this week (if you have never been to Israel in the summer, you have no idea what hot really is!). Heat exhaustion is a real thing. So the Ezagouri's request really applies to ministries across all Israel: "... people get tired and weary at such temperatures. Please pray that we may be able to function properly through the Summer."

Please pray over the special prayer request (which I emphasized in bold inside the subscription only Attached DOCX Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries), as well as the other prayer requests made by this congregation in the Galilee. They also report on some issues Israel is facing with a widening gap between Israel and the North American Jewish community, and a large quantity of weapons stolen from an Israeli army base. Some of the suspects were apprehended but not all and the weapons were stolen for sale to the Israeli mafia and some terror groups. Read more inside the Weekly Summary attachment

Howard Bass of the Beer Sheva Yeshua's Inheritance congregation has a report from his ministry time in the UK and US. Read his report inside the Weekly Summary attachment. I was especially taken by something Howard wrote about their time at a family wedding in Colorado. Afterwards, Howard writes about their sons, "When Evan and Tal witnessed the low level of meaningful life for the Jewish people in the U.S., they both thanked me for obeying God to move to Israel! Despite all of the problems and issues here, there is a daily reality of significance for those who live here, even if not all of the Israeli Jews appreciate it."

There are many things in Howard's report as he is catching up after being gone from Israel so many weeks, but this also caught my eye: "Yesterday I had the privilege to teach at the congregation in Sderot. The name of the congregation, pastored by Michael and Dina Beener, is Ir HaHaim (City of the Living, or of Life), standing in faith against Hamas in Gaza just a short distance across an open field, who call Sderot the City of the Dead. Pray for this courageous group of believers sho choose to remain living in a city so close to an avowed enemy seeking its destruction. These brothers and sisters are heroes on the border."

Also, "Last week we baptized three members of one family in Beer Sheva, who till now have not been capable of joining themselves to any congregation. The mother is bed-ridden, so we sprinkled her in faith; the son and the daughter we took in turn to be immersed, praying also with faith that the Lord would set them free in health and from demonic voices, especially now that they have obeyed the Lord to be baptized after being believers already for some years. Their initials are L, G, and R."

From Tents of Mercy which is under the eldership f Eitan Shishkoff and now pastored by his son-in-love, Avishalom Tekel, who writes, "This season of receiving the senior leadership of Tents of Mercy has been both rewarding and also challenging. I am so motivated to give my all for the good of the flock the Lord has entrusted me with. It's also become abundantly clear that I am not traveling this path alone. In that sense, the timing is excellent for this journey. The vision and needs of the congregation and our humanitarian aid outreaches are clear and compelling for me and it is my desire to share about them everywhere I go."

Martin Sarvis in Jerusalem shares a report on the Dor Haba youth worship camp writtne by Bethany Rosenfeld, the senior organizer. She writes, "I stand amazed at what God did in the hearts of 100+ Jewish, Arab, and Palestinian youth last week. Tears, joy, unity, healing, deliverance, freedom, new beginnings, destiny, servant leadership and calling—these are some of the words that aim to describe what happened at the "Dor Haba" worship camp 2017." Priority Prayer Focus

Reading Ron Cantor's account of praying for a young Jewish man on a plane to Prague, it reminded me of two similar situations I had while flying El Al. One was a Jewish young man who was very rude to me complaining about being seated next to a fat woman so he couldn't be comfortable. The other was a young woman who seemed to go out of her way to be rude and obnoxious. Both times these young Jewish people got extremely ill during the flight and I began to take care of them. They were both very touched by my kindness to them in the face of their previous rudeness. They asked me why I would be so kind to them.

These two flights were great experiences but, like Eddie Santoro's prayer letter speaks to, I lacked the boldness to tell them where my patience for them was springing from - a heart given to Yeshua. If we are honest, there are probably few of us who have not been bold enough to witness when a perfect opportunity presented itself.

As Eddie writes, "I believe with all of my heart that God’s passionate desire in this day is to destroy the work of the enemy. God is calling us to go forth and share His Word and life. As you go forth, as you step into the land that is beyond your natural gifting, His power WILL be released in you and the lost will be bathed in His life. His light will shine forth from you, the called will come home and God’s Kingdom will come."

Eddie Santoro of Ahavat Yeshua congregation in Jerusalem starts us off this week encouraging himself and all of us to be bold going forth. He acknowledges, "Here in Israel, there is a great intimidation against witnessing. The religious spirits are strong and dominant, especially in Jerusalem. . . . It is so much easier not to talk, not to mention the “hated” name. And yet we have no doubt that if the revival that we long for is to come, then the light that God has put in us needs to shine forth from us each and every day. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world!" From the Kerem-El , God's Vineyard congregation which is the offspring of the Carmel congregation in the Haifa area, news includes their first ever congregational retreat which was spent in the Golan Heights - "the main focus being to bond together as a community." From Revive Israel, part 2 of Cody Archer's article Apostle in Original Context and a video about serving the believers in Japan, Mutual Submission – Ariel and Jeremiah. inside the Weekly Summary attachment is a short teaching from a ministry leader in Brazil, Harold Walker, that Revive works with. The article is called Empty Vessels and it deals with prayer groups.

Stefan and Karen Silver, who serve as associate pastors in the Kerem El congregation also give highlights of the goings on in their congregation, ministry and family. Their report inside the Weekly Summary attachment includes several new believers who have come to faith and baptisms in the Jordan River.

One thing that international believers need to know about the congregations in Israel is that the ministry teams - including pastors - have to raise personal support for their incomes outside of Israel. The congregations are not able to support salaries (or adequate salaries). The reason? The extreme austerity and even downright poverty in the whole of Israel. In the U.S. we expect the salaries of the ministry team to be paid fully by the church's, but it is not so in Israel and it is a good thing to remember when you see ministry leaders asking for material support. It is not just the project funds that count, because all of these ministry leaders minister sacrificially. They also need to provide for their families while the do it. This is true not only of young ministry leaders like the Silver's or the Jelski's, but your material support for personal incomes of many of the long established congregational leaders often makes the difference been being able to afford cooling in the heat waves and heating in the winter blasts. We know of those who simply go without rarely saying a word about it. But these are things we need to know because, as the apostle Paul said, For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them ... of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in material things. Romans 15:27

Arni and Yonit Klein of Emmaus Way sent a note to say they have a few openings left on the next German -speaking Gathering to be held from August 3 – 13; and in the next English-speaking gathering to take place from September 3 – 13. There is an online application at the galileeworship.com

From the Acco Harvest of Asher congregation comes a short teaching on how it is possible for believers to walk in this imperfect world bringing peace to all they come in contact with. Guy Cohen and his family on currently on a sabbatical and prayers are requested for this time of refreshing, restoration, health and direction from the Lord. In the congregation the children are enjoying their after school program, but there are several members with health issues that they would ask prayers for. Joel and Teresa Jelski are moving to an apartment outside of their old downtown Jerusalem residence for the past 3 years. This will put them closer to family members. Their village is on the tallest mountain in the Jerusalem hills area. Downside is having to carry the apartment rental for both the old and the new for this first month. where Joel also gives a short report on the Dor Haba Music Camp that just wrapped up.

Martin Sarvis in Jerusalem also participated in the Dor Haba Music Camp and gives his own short report on that while directing us to the next camp, Netzor which started July 4. Netzor is an 11-day program intended for young Messianic Jewish high-school graduates who will soon be beginning their compulsory army service in the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). Martin writes, "It is estimated that at any given moment there are 350 to 450 Messianic (i.e. believing in Yeshua/Jesus) soldiers in the army. It can be a lonely experience—it is common for one of these young men or women to be the only believer in their unit. Many who enter service from believing families drift away from their faith during their tenure. But this camp provides a time of being strengthened and encouraged in truths which will help them to enter from a position of strength in their faith and their resolve. And also opportunity to network with other young believers with whom they may communicate throughout the years ahead. Several who just completed Dor Haba are moving straight into Netzor, and then into the IDF."

Ron Cantor of Messiah's Mandate Sharing Yeshua with Israelis in Prague and a testimony Healing at 30,000-Feet - Testimony of Baruch There is also an appeal to help Tiferet Yeshua of Tel Aviv to pay for much needed expansion of their facility capacity - and for the live streaming of their services, which are in Hebrew, to reach more Israelis online.

Evan and Maala Thomas send a great update of the doings in the Netanya congregation - from summer camps to the special emphasis they have places on their Shabbat School system for the past 20 years. It is a quite newsy (but concise) update of all the things they are doing, but one we took particular interest in is this: "We would also like to share with you a considerable paradigm shift in our thinking regarding the status of women in ministry in Beit Asaph. This change is the result of a lengthy process of research, prayer and discussion. We are convinced that the doctrines we previously held on this subject were repressive and based in poor theology. Our commitment at Beit Asaph is to allow women to preach in the congregation and hold positions of leadership appropriate to their specific spiritual gifts. This decision is still quite exceptional in the local Body of Messiah in our region. We would value your prayers for wisdom and grace as we move forward in our very conservative spiritual climate."

As you might imagine, this could be quite a controversial topic among the Israeli Messianic ministries, which hopefully will expressed respectfully. I know that I for one would love to hear more of the discussions and considerations that brought this major shift in the place of women in their ministry. Hopefully in the future they will have the time to expound on those things in writing for us. As a woman, this issue has held my interest for decades wanting what God wants for us more than anything else.

Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we faint not.

If you are experiencing intense battles right now, perhaps it is something that can help you understand the pressures and stresses of the Israeli ministries. I often forget that spiritual reality when in the midst of my own personal battles, then I am reminded again as I read through the Israeli Ministries prayer letters. One of the main reasons that I started Israelprayer 16 years ago, besides desiring to make these ministries more known to church, was also to raise awareness of our duty as Christians to support their material lack from our abundance. It is almost impossible to get anything done without finances. It has a paralyzing effect, like standing water with no water flowing in, it stagnates. This is why we are called to help in this way, and the apostle Paul, indeed called it our duty.

The last two prayer letters that I received today have moved from the last entries in Israelprayer Summary this week. This week, the last shall be first:

From the Arad Hasdey (Mercy) of Yeshua congregation, the topic is the "evil ideology" of Islam "which enslaves more than a billion and a half human beings worldwide." Their desire is to enslave many more that just a billion and a half. In the Arad Hebrew congregation, they have made a special point to do outreach among Islamic Bedouin who live in extreme poverty in the land surrounding Arad. Please read more about what they are doing and how you can help them do it, as they reach out to free these enslaved people with the liberty in Messiah Yeshua. The second topic on the Arad congregations' minds is the ugly religious spirits that are trying to consume the city of Arad, and indeed Israel. That comes in the form of the ultra-orthodox who want to take complete control of Arad and are fighting, not only against the followers of Yeshua in Arad, but also against the seculars, including persecution of the secular mayor who is trying to raise the town to its fullest potential. The Mercy of Yeshua congregation is calling for prayer for the Arad Mayor who is even confronted with a house on his street that is plastered with posters that say: “Nisan, you failed!”, “Nisan is a threat to Arad”, “Because of Nisan, Arad is Being Destroyed”.

Even "more insidious," the write, is the "anti-missionary group called Yad L'Achim" and ultra-orthodox group that started in Brooklyn, New York, but is especially active in Israel. The second "last shall be first" prayer letter comes from Katy Smith writing for the Maoz Ministry of Ari and Shira Sorko-Ram. Katy is focused like a laser beam on intimidation, and specifically the intimidation that the ultra-Orthodox exercise against Messianic believers, seculars, and even the Israeli government. Over the past few weeks the influence of religious intimidation has been rocking Israeli news headlines, as Katy notes, "With the help of the demonic spirit of intimidation, 11% of Israel's population has basically been holding the rest of us as hostages—including PM Netanyahu, who, without the ultra-Orthodox parties, would not be able to form an alternative government. This intimidation has been going on for decades, however, now it is reaching a boiling point with secular Israelis and those who believe differently than the ultra-Orthodox. We are asking for your prayers. "

On the mind of Israel Pochtar of Beit Hallel and Voice of Judah ministries are the needy children in their area. The summer may just have begun but Pochtar is already gearing up to come to their aid for Back to School supplies, text books and backpacks. He writes, "Our humanitarian projects bring us into contact with many families and children who suffer extreme poverty, and who simply can't afford new school supplies and text books. Our "Back-To-School Project" allows us and our partners to assist these children and their parents by providing them with the means to acquire school supplies and text books in preparation for the new school year. It's a costly process and parents need to spend large amounts of money on text books, stationary, and school equipment, and that's where you and I come in!" For the Israel-affiliated congregations to be drawn closer together in fellowship and unity. We want to make progress in the formative process of practical organizational structure, support, and equipping.

Ahavat Yeshua Congregation (Jerusalem). For new children's program directors and their transition. Also for finances for purchase of new speakers for shabbat services.

Tents of Mercy Congregation (Kiryat Yam). For continued growth among the leadership team. For grace for Avi and Hannah as they continue to present the vision for the community for the coming years. For resources to complete critical repairs and renovations within the clothing distribution areas of the building.

Harvest of Asher (Acco). Pray for Guy Cohen and his family, as they take a two-month sabbatical to invest time together as a family. Pray especially for their children, as teens face many difficult challenges to their faith both leading up to and during their army service. Pray for an outpouring and revelation of God's love and wonderful purpose for them.

Tiferet Yeshua (Tel Aviv). God is doing a powerful work at Tiferet Yeshua through some of our members. They have begun to go on the streets and pray for people. They have seen most of the people healed. However, we have not seen many salvations. Pray for more of these are being healed to see their need for salvation.

Asher and Betty Intrater. Asher is putting the finishing touches on a new book from an undisclosed location in Canada. Please pray that Asher has clarity from the Spirit on what to include and how to write it. Pray for the editing and publishing process to go smoothly.

Revive Israel team. Several from Revive Israel will be joining Asher and Betty at the Watchmen Gathering prayer event in Montreal. Please pray for divine connections and for unity among the various leaders who will be attending. Youval and his family are traveling in France and Switzerland this month -- please pray for safety and rejuvenation for them.

Dan and Patty Juster. They have a few more weeks of travel for their US itinerary before returning to Israel. Pray that their remaining time will be effective in equipping the Tikkun America congregations and in strengthening relationships among various churches.

Richard and Carolyn Hyde, in addition to celebrating the marriage of their daughter this month, are as ever, going about Israel making friends and sharing the gospel with those they meet. Sincerely one of the most upbeat people I have ever met.)

It started Monday and ends Friday bringing together "over 100 Israeli Jewish, Israeli Arab and Palestinian Arab young people are gathering together from across Israel and the territories to worship and praise God together, and to receive corporate and individual instruction and experience in honoring Him in their hearts, with their voices, and with musical instruments! Organized by Succat Hallel (a 24/78 worship and prayer center in Jerusalem), the speakers, teachers and facilitators consist of young adult leaders from Succat Hallel, leaders from many different congregations in the land, and a visiting team of leaders from abroad. I'm in London and am seeing more amazing political "second chances" that God is granting - I believe - because of praying people of the UK. Listen to this:

Prime Minister Theresa May became the Prime Minister to lead Britain through the Brexit process. She had a decent majority, but was advised to hold a snap election to get an even larger majority. The polls said she had a 20% lead!

However, over the few weeks between calling a new election and the actual election, there were fierce terrorist attacks, and also a revenge attack on Muslims coming out of their mosque on Ramadan. Then the high rise building with flammable siding burned down in one hour - killing at least 79 people. Charismatic opposition leader, Jeremy Corbyn, blamed May.

To make a long story short, when the election was held, May still had the largest party, but lost her majority. She had two choices, to partner with the only other conservative party to regain her majority, or go again to elections that had a very good chance of giving the government to far leftist Jeremy Corbyn. Corbyn in some ways is similar to Bernie Sanders - open borders, open doors to all Muslim immigrants - and an entitlement state. He is atheistic, strongly pro-Palestinian, calling members of Hamas and Hezbollah his friends, and is of course pro LBGT and pro-abortion.

Back to the choice of PM May partnering with the conservative party to get back her majority. That party is the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland (part of the UK) led by "Protestant fundamentalist" leader Arlene Foster. Several others of the 10 person party are born-again Christians and very pro-Israel, pro life and pro-family values!!!! Some of these party members requested to receive the Maoz Israel Report!

I was aware of the possibility of PM May partnering with them and of course was praying into this. It seemed like a dream, but today it has become true! So I address our prayer-warriors, especially the UK born-again believers: Do not let this opportunity be lost! Pray that the influence of this partnership (not technically a coalition partner, but a full-fledged partner) will also help turn the tide of wickedness in this nation.

There are many Christians in the UK who are alert to what is happening between the forces of good and evil, and clearly see that President Trump is God's person (as imperfect as he might be) to clean the swamp and turn back the Tsunami of wickedness that reached a peak during the Obama administration in America.

By the way, I was also in Ireland on the day the new prime minister Leo Varadkar, a gay, joined the gay parade marching in Dublin. Believe me, Irish Christians are praying their hearts out for deliverance from this man. So for Britain and Northern Ireland, I say, "REJOICE and take this enormous opportunity to put prayer power behind Prime Minister May and her new partner-in-governing, the DUP!! GOD BLESS GREAT BRITAIN!
