Priority Prayer Focus Purim Edition

It is the Purim holiday - a festive holiday that is based on a serious prophetic foreshadowing of the type of diabolical hatred of God's plans for the Jewish people which has built up throughout history and which will come to full maturity before the return of the LORD to the earth.

In the Hebrew scriptures, the Writings or Ketuvim, are three prophetic pictures in three different books — Jonah, Ruth and Esther. Jonah is a picture of Israel, reluctant to fulfill its call of God to be a light unto the nations. This is a picture of unsaved Israel today. But Ruth and Esther are pictures of the type of intercession that God stirs up among the Gentile Christians in the model of Ruth, and also from within the Jewish people pictured in the model of Esther, a member of royalty who was not even recognized as the Jew she was - so like the Messianic Jewish community today.

These prophetic pictures are not just matters of fun holidays but are pictures of the people who are involved in God's master plan for Israel today.  Jonah will repent and preach the gospel. Ruth will stand by Israel "your people shall be my people" and Esther will in a self-sacrificing act of courage reveal herself to indeed be a Jew, a "queen" of the royal line of Yeshua.

We wish all who are enjoying the Purim holiday much joy.  We thank God that we "Ruths" have a part to play along with you "Esthers" in seeing "Jonah" repent and return to Israel's calling to be a light unto the world.

Starting off this week with a fantastic and encouraging report from Israel Pochtar who is fresh off return from a meeting with Christian brothers from "Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Turkey, even Kurdish brothers". This is a powerful report of how mightily God is moving among Middle Eastern nations and how even though their faith is dangerous for them, God is giving grace in places where lawless spirits strongly reign. " They testify of a general atmosphere of fear in the entire region. Many are imprisoned for their faith, there is no freedom of speech, nor faith. Despite everything, in the midst of fear and oppression, we heard amazing updates of how God is moving in the Middle East. New churches are being born regularly."

I do not remember exactly how many times Pochtar has attended this conference but I do remember this is at least the third time he has committed to bring a team with him to worship and fellowship Arab Christians who are following the Lord Yeshua in extremely difficult surroundings. This is a report we don't want you to miss.

This is not the latest report from Martin Sarvis that has come in on Purim, but it provided so much background and a connecting of the dots to the Shia and Sunni "Amalek" spirit that stalks Irael today.  This is the one from Sarvis that we left in place for this Purim edition of the Weekly Summary, inside the attachment you will also find the prayer points from Martin for Purim.

Ronit Bender, who has spent the last several weeks in Perth, Australia, sends a great report on her visit there with "numerous churches, Messianic fellowships, prayer groups, seniors groups, and more. Lives are being touched and transformed every day. I’ve treasured sharing about God's love for each of us at every occasion. One particular church in the centre of the city ministers to street people, drug addicts and prostitutes. In the latest Maoz Israel Report, the monthly magazine of Ari & Shira Sorko-Ram, is a lovely update from the family of a baby girl that this summary prayed over for many months several years back. You may remember "Baby Netaley" who had a large brain tumor that was discovered when she was only 10 months old. It was a pretty horrible situation which she barely survived but now Netaley is a big sister to two younger siblings. Read their story online by clicking here.

In the weekly Sorko-Ram ministry/prayer letter, Katy Smith writes a strong reason to pray for Israel's leaders, whether you agree with their political positions or not. She writes, "It has been very sad to see what Prime Minister Netanyahu has gone through in the last few months. . . . Netanyahu is in big trouble.  Many of those on the left side of the political map decided the Prime Minister is guilty by default until proven innocent, and the attacks are getting personal.  Besides Netanyahu, several other political and military leaders have been under various investigations for alleged corruption and even sexual misconduct. To be clear, we are not asking you to pray for any of our leaders to be acquitted if they are, in fact, guilty.  Our desire is that those who make critical decisions for Israel have pure hearts, selfless motives, and clean hands." 

One of the prayer requests she includes:  "pray specifically for PM Netanyahu (and his family) as he continues to lead Israel on both national and international scenes amid a lot of pressure.  Pray he stays focused and determined on leading this country."  This is so important because whether guilty or innocent, as long as Netanyahu heads the government of Israel, it is imperative that he do it well. That prayer should supersede all others for the sake of all Israel.

Also, I want to pass along this excerpt from Maoz: Pray for Israeli Jewish believers facing persecution.  Below is an excerpt from a correspondence we received from Calev Myers of the Jerusalem Institute of Justice a couple of weeks ago: 

"Over the years there have been many situations in which a Messianic couple has been invited to a hearing at the Ministry of Interior, by means of a letter in which it was written that they need to show up at a certain day with their passport and Israeli ID. Those who innocently appeared at such hearings were interrogated regarding their faith and particularly regarding the question of them being believers before making aliyah. In some situations, Ministry of Interior clerks even confiscated their passports and ID's until the completion of the 'examination and hearing' regarding their right to stay in the country...  We regret to inform you that... this phenomenon is presently reoccurring. Recently, the team at our office has received several requests for help and has assisted several people who have received such invitations." Please pray for this illegal harassment to stop!  Pray that no Messianic Jew would be forced to leave Israel because they found the Messiah.

Ruth Nessim, a dear lady from Nahariya near the Lebanese border, files a short report beginning with thanksgiving for the abundant rain that has fallen in 2018. She writes, "God has promised to pour out His Spirit on Israel, and we are awaiting this great promise. Pray with us that God will send the latter rain on the House of Israel. We need it so desperately."  Ruth ministered alongside her husband, really so far back it was pioneering the faith in Israel, until Albert passed away around a decade ago. Since then Ruth has developed a real heart for the Palestinian Arabs. They see her heart for them easily and she is like a magnet drawing them to her. Arni and Yonit Klein write about a door into the UK that may be opening to them after a gathering recently of 150 brethren in Germany with UK participants that followed their format for the Galilee Worship Gatherings - worship without a predetermined plan of song lists, topics or speakers.  "The repentance, recognition, identification and unity that manifested between the British and the Germans blew us all away. . . .Many in the body in Germany for decades have been seeking the Lord to become rightly aligned with Israel and their Messianic brethren." In this relation Arni writes, It is understandable that the majority of the body in the UK has not yet come into the depth of relationship and engagement attained to by the body in Germany. (This is of course only a general observation.)" In the Kfar Saba Ha Maayan congregation led by Tony and Orna Sperandeo, the new year is set with "new beginnings" in the congregation, starting with the Betzel-El, Creativity and Healing Center to minister to those with counseling needs and various issues. There is a testimony about a young man with motor skills problems due to infirmity and how painting held to release him emotionally.  There are special prayer requests from the congregation including one for the several members who are sick from cancer - also for how to pray for the salvation of Israel and also for her enemies.

Orna Grinman, also a member at Ha Maayan congregation has a ministry to orphans, widows and single parents in Israel. She is known for ministry walk through the Tabernacle, a 7-month biblical instruction for healing of many emotional hurts and wounds. She how has developed an intensive 8-day format for tourists and the first seminar is to be between April 22-May 1, 2018. Ot OoMofet is offering for the first time the "Tabernacle School" to English speakers in Israel and in a condensed format. The seminar is designed to take the participants through a personal process, equipping them with Biblical powerful tools that are based on the format of the Tabernacle. Israelprayer:  This is the most significant Israeli public statement regarding Messianic Jews that I have ever seen in 17 years of closely tracking the Israeli Messianic community of faith.

As KehilaNews writes, the Jerusalem Post Opinion writer, Itzhak Rabihiya, was formerly a news journalist for one of the most read newspapers in Israel, Yediot Aharonot (YNet on social media) and still is a spokesman of the Labor Party, a left-leaning political party and major opposition to the right-leaning Likud party of Netanyahu. 

The most astounding statement of all is in the byline: "Perhaps the government of Israel should start viewing Messianic Jews as diplomatic assets rather than a religious threat." This, of course, is the truth. In the nations (diaspora), Messianic Jews are staunch ambassadors for Israel, as are evangelical Christians.  The same cannot be said for a majority in the traditional and secular Jewish community, as in America where Jews tend to ally more along US social issues than issues of safeguarding Israel. 

Itzhak Rabihiya's Op-Ed indicates a major shift to clarity in thinking towards recognizing who Israel's true friends are in the Diaspora, but also within Israel. In times past the Christian community did not pay much attention to what was happening in Israel with their brothers in the faith who are Messianic Jews. Rabihiya's direct confrontation of that issue in this article shows that situation has begun to change. He writes, " "...the [Israeli] Interior Ministry still seems to take pride in preventing Messianic Jews from immigrating to Israel. In the recent well-known case of Rebecca Floer, a Jewish daughter of Holocaust survivors was prevented from immigrating under the Law of Return because the ministry claimed it had reason to believe she was affiliated with the Messianic Jewish community."

Further, he underscores this as a strategic political position change for the Labor party as Israel increasingly appears to about be ready to elect a new Prime Minister. Rabihiya writes,  "It would behoove the Israeli government to recognize that the small Messianic Jewish community in Israel, which apparently numbers less than 20,000 people, has become, since the election of Donald Trump, disproportionately influential and important to Israel’s security and diplomatic standing. Unfortunately, it appears that neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, nor anyone in his Cabinet, fully understands this new reality. . . . In view of the deep relationship between Evangelical Christians and the Messianic community, perhaps the government of Israel should start viewing Messianic Jews as diplomatic assets rather than a religious threat."

Praise the LORD for the abundant rain that LuAnne Sayag of the Carmel Congregation begins their monthly ministry letter speaking about. She writes, "As a congregation we kept praying fervently for rain -- both the physical and the spiritual. During the last days of 2017, I received this verse from the Lord: “You crown the year with Your goodness and Your paths drip with abundance" (Psalm 65:11).  I thought that God meant that He was going to finish out 2017 by giving us an abundance of rain, but it was not so.  However, on January 1, 2018, the heavens were opened, and the rain poured down. It was then that I understood that the real reign of a king comes after he is crowned. I believe that God was showing us that He has crowned this new year with His goodness which we are going to see and experience throughout this coming year." Hallelujah! Whatever the enemies of Israel attempt, God's blessings cannot be thwarted. Please continue to pray for the rains that will replenish all of Israel's needs.

Inside the subscription-only, attached Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries, are the rest of the reports from the northern Carmel Congregation about ministry outreaches  and prayer requests over their house of the Lord known far and wide for worship.  One event upcoming is their School of Ministry, March 2 – 13, for Peter and all other speakers and worship leaders, as they impart understanding of God’s heart for Israel and the role of the nations in intercession, to the 120 participants coming from several nations.

Maoz Ministries (Ari and Shira Sorko-Ram) have a weekly prayer letter written by Katie Smith that this week speaks to the sound of sirens, jets and explosion heard in northern Israel last weekend. Everyone in Israel wondered if this outbreak would become a full blown war...as did Katie's 7 year old daughter who came to her admitting, "Mom, I'm scared of dying."  We should understand the toll taken by the persistent threat of war that hangs continually over the very young to the very old and everyone in between in Israel.  Pray for those who know their eternal home with the Father and also for all those in Israel who don't yet know. Pray for God's hand to hold back the plans of the enemy to steal, kill and destroy any Israeli before their time. The report from Rachel and Gilad Netanel in Ein Karim outside of Jerusalem is always a delight to read. It reminds me of the scripture in Daniel 11:32, "... but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits." Amazing things happen as Rachel and Gilad open their home with generous hospitality and Rachel shares her faith fearlessly.  I do not share specifics in Arrows which is published online, but I do urge you to open and read inside the subscription-only, attached Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries. Your heart will be uplifted.

We also have a short update from Joel Jelski, who along with his wife, Teresa and their toddler, are in the midst of discipleship training on the island of Cyprus with Gateways Beyond. GB is a destination that many young believer Israelis and Messianic young adults from around the world go to for an extended period of discipleship. Joel and Teresa have found it "amazing" but also "challenging" when as Joel writes, "God was really working in our hearts, and it wasn't always a comfortable place." Beer Sheva leaders of the Yeshua's Inheritance congregation, Howard and Randi Bass have a lovely family of adult children (complete with grandchildren) who are all following the Lord. I mention this because Howard shared a great family photo inside the Weekly Summary attachment along with a little update on what each of their children are doing (KehilaNews.com, Israel Jewish Voice Ministries, final year towards a degree in engineering studies, and a captain in the IDF combat engineering section.  Children are a blessing and a gift from the Lord. Psalm 127:3

In the congregation, there is a lot going on too with recent guest preachers, Arab brother, Khaled Daleh, who pastors the Evangelical Baptist Church in Kfar Yasif, and from Jerusalem Messianic Jewish Marcel Rebiai spoke on the Kingdom of God within the born-again believer.  Bass has been a great model of an Israeli leader who steps out to engage the diversity of convictions in the body of Messiah, while staying true to his own spiritual convictions at the same time. It is an admirable trait I have seen in him for all the years of this prayer summary.

Bass reports that the Dimona controversy is still ongoing and also that their congregation is taking on the problem so widespread among believers probably around the world - pornography. It is not a minor thing seeing how in Numbers we see that Balaam could not curse the children of Israel, but when they "began to commit whoredom" with the people that hired Balaam to curse them, they brought themselves under a curse. There is a shift in ministry focus for the House of Victory rehab ministry that is run by Eric Benson and connected to the Carmel Congregation. The shift is to concentrate its ministry efforts within their own city of Haifa instead of working with the coalition of congregations at a Tel Aviv center.  This seems like a great move because no major city is without its own desperate addicts and alcoholics living on the street and alone in the world. Eric Benson confides in this prayer letter which we urge you to read to catch the vision of the work they are doing, that "in the recent months we have been facing a serious challenge in the finances of Beit Nitzachon" (House of Victory).  The work that is done among the addicts, prostitutes and street people is the most un-glamorous of all the types of ministry that a believer can be called to but it is also exactly the kind of ministry that it is easy to envision Yeshua doing.  Benson shares 3 videos you can watch inside the Weekly Summary attachment including this one video of our work in Tel Aviv and Haifa. As promised, we have the second report on the outreach to Refugees that is being done by Lebanese pastor Najeeb and his wife Elizabeth, who also run the Immanuel Church and Bookshop. Last week we shared that Najeeb is still in Germany recovering from hip surgery that he had to have done suddenly. Elizabeth continues to carry on with all their ministries in Haifa which she shared last week and now this week with a different outreach of that to refugees harbored in Jordan - especially the children. Priority Prayer Focus

Although the news out of Israel has died down a bit since the intrusion Saturday morning of a drone from an Iranian military base in Syria set off Israel being put on high alert, an Israeli F-16 being downed by anti-aircraft fire from Syria, we keep our focus on the war footing that the region is now in.

We have several news items below from KehilaNews.com from Israeli ministries who were reporting on these events immediately, and who offer prayer points to go with them. Catch up on the news and keep the prayers for Israel's protection and wisdom high on your prayer priorities list for the days ahead. We hope this will die down completely, but we also know that it is not a matter of if war will come, only when the time is that it will surely come.

In keeping with our priority prayer focus of the war potential on Israel's northern borders, we are starting with this latest prayer letter in just this morning from Eddie Santoro of Ahavat Yeshua congregation/Zion's Glory Ministry. Eddie writes: "The first and most important prayer need at this time concerns the tension filled situation confronting Israel with Iran and Syria. . . . Iran, the dominant power in the Islamic Middle East, has been helping Syria with arms and troops in its protracted civil war to drive out the radical ISIS rebels that have been trying to take control. Having succeeded in this, Iran has now instructed Syria to establish military bases close to the northern border of Israel. The purpose of these bases is to launch an attack on Israel in the near future. Obviously Israel sees this as provocation and will not accept this new and dangerous situation."

Santoro gives a summary of events and ends with these observations: "Israel does not want a war on its Northern front, but the situation is very volatile with complex dynamics operating. Syria and Iran see the F-16 destruction as an incredible victory and are emboldened by their new ability to confront Israeli defenses.  Please pray for God’s protection on Israel. Pray for wisdom and Godly strategy for the Israeli government against the evil Islamic forces of Iran and its servant Syria."

Other subjects in the Santoro prayer letter regards the corruption charges against Prime Minister Netanyahu, the blessing of the 2018 rainfall so far (keep praying!), and the USA trip that he and Jackie begin on Feb 26 for 3 wks of family visits and speaking in congregations/churches in Kingston, NY, Virginia Beach, VA and Tampa, Florida. Shifting gears completely, Kobi and Shani Ferguson of Yeshua Israel Ministries in Jerusalem has launched a new "Fellowship of Artists" for the dozens of Israeli psalmists, worship leaders and musicians from across Israel. It is a place to support and encourage each other spiritually and artistically. They write, "If you come from a largely Christian environment, it may be hard to imagine the loneliness of being the only believer in your workplace/neighborhood/school. Since Jewish believers are a tiny percentage of the population, congregations are spread thin across the land and rarely do believers live near each other. This leaves many of the believing communities isolated. Often, when we meet with musicians they confess, 'We love music. We love to worship. We want to serve. But we feel so lonely'.”

Please read about new fellowship which from the looks of the photo (see inside the Weekly Summary attachment) is going great from the start. As someone who has been around musicians all of my life, I especially liked reading their description of the artistic temperament, which most non-artistic people do not understand so readily about them. Israelprayer thinks this is going to be a wonderful new fellowship to bring much needed bonds of friendship, mutual trust and understanding among the people who are leading the Israeli community of faith into the presence of God. From the Jerusalem-based Revive Israel weekly prayer letter first a short article that is an invitation to join via live streaming them and other Israeli ministries on Feb 27th for the annual Esther Fast 2018. They write, "For us the events in the book of Esther are a prophetic pattern for understanding the End Times. . . . Our prayers, according to this pattern, can reduce the damage done by the enemy and increase the extent of the coming revival." From the Maoz Ministries of Ari and Shira Sorko-Ram, Shira's article about the movie based on Israeli evangelist Jacob Damkani: Israel's Most Controversial Film: "A New Spririt". some things you may not know about Damkani are written about, like how he was "once a local gangster from a poverty-stricken town in Israel, who fled to the United States and was introduced to Yeshua as his Messiah. Damkani was discipled in singer Keith Green's community in the 70's and his life was turned completely upside down. He returned home and became Israel's pioneer messenger on the streets of Israel, boldly preaching the Good News to curious onlookers and furious ultra-Orthodox Jews ... and does so to this day" To read more click the linked title.

Also there is a report also from Shira on Why Guatemala Said "Yes" to Jerusalem following Trump's decision to move the US Embassy to Israel's capital. Also inside the Weekly Summary attachment is Maoz weekly prayer letter by Katy Smith where you will find their requested prayers for the nations, the Israeli believers, their congregation and ministry works - also a special plea for the increasingly bad humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Ron Cantor's Messiah's Mandate ministry has $1,500 for the upcoming Purim Outreach at the Tel Aviv Tiferet Yeshua congregation. Purim is not just a big deal for children and adults to enjoy getting dressed up as characters in the biblical account from the book of Esther, it is a serious prophetic picture of the redemption of Israel by God when evil government edicts are issues against the Jewish people.  Don't think of this as Israel's version of Halloween because Purim is the original and Halloween is the perversion of a prophetic picture that God is using to speak to the Jewish people what He also spoke to them in words by the prophet Jeremiah: "I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future."

Israel Pochtar, despite the regional  uptick in war temperature, writes this week about an important annual event they attend in a Middle Eastern nation in order to establish reconciliation and relationship with Arab pastors and leaders from all over the Middle East. In the past reports of this meeting, Pochtar has written of the touching exchanges of experience by all the participants and no doubt this will be the same. It is a MUST for every one of you who subscribe to the Arrows from Zion and Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries to comprehend the priority that most Israeli Messianic Jewish ministers place on God's desire for salvation of the Arab and Persian Middle Eastern people, and for the bonds of true brotherhood - the one new man - to be established between them and the Israeli Messianic community. While Islamists are the enemy of Israel and the Jewish people, the Israeli ministries recognize that God's will is for many held captive in Islam to be saved.  It is a fine emotional line to walk because of all the evil that is done in the name of Allah, which is one indication of why Yeshua said, "because wickedness shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." We must press past the easy path of simply hating our enemies to praying that our enemies become our brothers in Messiah.

Pastor Najeeb and Elizabeth Atteih are Lebanese ministers who live in Haifa who run a Bible book shop, a church, an Arab Christian IDF Soldiers home and do extensive ministry outreach among the refugees from the Syrian war and from Isis.  They are currently under an extreme ministry situation due to surgery on Najeeb discovered while he was ministering to refugees in Germany. It has become a major setback for them as Najeeb underwent the surgery in Germany, but Elizabeth had to be in Haifa to take care of book shop and ministry outreach here. In fact, they write that the situation has presented such hardship that the Soldier's home ministry may have to be shut down. You can read more about what they do in respect to supporting Israeli Christian Arabs serving in the Israeli Defense Forces - very important! - and also how you might help them remain viable. Jim Schutz is the Executive Director of the Joseph Project which is the largest importer of humanitarian aid to Israel. Jim writes, " I am convinced that God’s love for Israel and the Jewish people cannot be separated from His love for the nations.  From the biblical perspective, this is a deep mystery.  In the beginning, God even “set the boundaries of the nations according to the number of the sons and daughters of Israel.” (Deut 32:8). Throughout the Bible, God often deals with the Jewish people for the sake of the nations and with the nations for the sake of Israel.  And the fulfilling of God’s plan for Israel’s restoration, is what releases the ultimate blessing of “life from the dead” for the world (Rom 11:15). The Bible clearly calls non-Jews to understand this mystery and participate in it while taking hold of God’s love for all." Lastly, this week Orna Grinman's Ot OoMofet (A Sign & An Example) ministry is offering for the first time the "Tabernacle School" to English speakers in Israel and in a condensed format. This school usually lasts 7 months, but is now offered to tourists in an intensive format of 8 days.  The seminar is scheduled for between April 22 and May 1, 2018 (final duration will be advertised at a later date). We all battle with various problems, sins or bad habits. For a while we may manage to defeat or control them, but then they pop up again because the root is still there. KNI Israel Prayer Corner :: Feb 13, 2018 | Kehila News Staff | Potential for the outbreak of war on Israel’s northern border is a major prayer point for Israel as a nation. A drone from of an Iranian base in central Syria violated Israeli airspace entering from Jordan before an Israeli attack helicopter downed it just south of the Sea of Galilee. Retaliating for the intrusion, Israel launched attack on 12 significant Iranian military sites in Syria. The Israeli Air Force took intense anti-aircraft fire from Syria and an F-16 jet became the first downed Israeli jet since 1982.

Esther Moore has been standing in faith about cancer and there are excerpts from her detailed report (it is good!) inside this Weekly Summary. Praying the Headlines

Asher Intrater explains the Police recommendation of indictment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Since Netanyahu is extremely popular in the United States, Asher's explanation will really help you to see things from the Israeli perspective - and he ends with how to pray over the situation.  It is a good thing to understand that even in the community of Messianic Jewish faith in Israel, there are mixed opinions over the police accusations and no one really knows the truth of facts in these two instances as Asher explains. That I why I am going to add my own 2¢ to what Asher has said in this video, and I do that having been an Israel Watcher for a few decades. I have seen this before in the previous Netanyahu administration.

My Word We may not know the specifics about this case, but we do know the well established pattern of the police going after Netanyahu with politically motivated investigations. As I followed Israeli politics (because of the believers in Israel) during Netanyahu's first administration as Prime Minister in the late 1990's, it was the same thing: He was continually being hounded by police investigations and everyone in Israel's hair was on fire about it - including the Messianic Jewish believers.  This was during the Clinton administration during the many investigations into Clinton scandals. Now once again, it seems Israel's Left is taking a page from the American Left who are trying to burn down the White House with President Trump in it.

The willingness of the political elites to throw our nations into complete chaos to regain their own power is beyond belief! Like Asher said, we don't know the details of corruption with certainty, but one thing we do know is the willingness of the opposition political parties and operatives in positions of authority (like Israeli police or the US FBI-DOJ) to sacrifice the good and well being of the nation in order to regain power for their side.

Our prayer cannot just be about Netanyahu or Trump's potential misdeeds, but it is also must be about this critical problem of 'no holds barred' political cage-fighting-to-the-death that the opposition is willing to force on our nations. That is as evil a motive as it gets. It is like the woman who told King Solomon, go ahead and cut the baby in half then because I insist on getting what I want out of this. Pray for the exposure of hidden evil motives behind the accusations too. That the evil-doers be exposed wherever they are.
