Rosh Hashanah: The Feast of Trumpets
by Israel Pochtar
Beit Hallel in Ashdod and Voice of Judah Ministries

Watch this video where Israel Pochtar blows the trumpet and introduces the meaning of Rosh Hashanah, which begins sundown Sept 18 and ends sundown on the 19th.

"The High Holy Days is a very significant time in Israel, with 10 days before Rosh Ha-Shana, the Jewish people referrer to these days as “Yamim Nora’im” (Days of Awe). It is the time of contemplation, of seeking God, repenting according to the Jewish tradition.

Having a deeper understanding of the prophetic message of High Holy Days and the fulfilment of Feast of Trumpets, we are able to deliver a more powerful message while sharing the Gospel during the Biblical feasts. What about Rosh Ha-Shana? Where does it fit in the High Holy Days? In fact, there’s no mention of Rosh Ha-Shana per se in the Bible. Instead, God speaks about Feast of Trumpets and gives us a deep insight into its meaning and fulfilment. Read more as Pastor Pochtar explains

Sderot City of Life's Michael Beener sends prayer request: Palestinian terrorists, with the support of Hamas, the Islamic terrorist group that controls the Gaza Strip, fired rockets from that coastal enclave at the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon, in southern Israel. The rockets were fired at Israeli cities when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was signing historic agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain at the White House. Apparently as a criminal way of expressing opposition. A 62-year-old man who was distributing food for those in need suffered injuries from the rocket splinters and his condition deteriorated overnight, at the moment he's in a intensive care unit. Another 28-year-old man suffered limb injuries when he was struck by shards of glass. Four other people, including a pregnant woman, were treated in a state of shock. Two hours later, IDF soldiers detained two suspects armed with hand grenades who tried to infiltrate Israeli territory from the southern Gaza Strip. Then the inhabitants of Sderot experienced a night of Islamic terror in which more than 13 times we were awakened by sirens announcing the firing of rockets from Gaza towards our city, with only 30 seconds to take refuge in the bomb shelters. Please pray.

Tree of Life Avi-Asher & Shayla Hyde announcing their new baby daughter Hoshana’el Tehora born at the launch of their new pro-Life video social media campaign Prayers need to stop suppression of this

Avi-Asher writes, "Please pray with us for a breakthrough in social media advertising - Thank you for your prayers - we just had a partial breakthrough with Youtube, but are still struggling to advertise our evangelistic and pro-life videos to the fullest extent. In fact, Google has threatened to take our account down altogether! Your prayers could literally make the difference between us reaching just tens of thousands or reaching millions. For many lives to be saved through this campaign.

From Gil Afriat of Tiferet Yeshua in Tel Aviv, their worship leaders for 14 yrs are starting a project to train our next generation of worshipers. Roman & Tania Kadin have multiple degrees in music, music conduction, music production and years of experience training young musicians and singers. "This is the first time that talented musicians and singers who want to join our worship team will be properly trained." Here's a VIDEO A Taste of Tiferet Yeshua's Worship. Also read this Raising up the Tabernacle of David in Israel.  "...the Shechinah, the manifest presence of God's Holy Spirit. After two-thousand years, it has returned to dwell in temples not made with hands where the incense of worship is rising again from the alters of adoring hearts. God is releasing a new worship anointing and sound here in the Land as Spirit-filled worshipers are raising up the fallen Tabernacle of David. Donate to help us reach Tel Aviv .

They write: "
Israel Going into Nation-Wide Quarantine for the Fall Holidays....it turns out that many of us in the Body of Messiah have planned intercessory worship events across the nation next week.....We are praying that through this shaking God will: Take down the things He wants removed, Cause the new things He wants to build to emerge, Cause His global Bride to draw closer to Him and be purified, and Cause many to turn their hearts to Him through this crisis. We feel that these prayer points are not just for Israel, but for the whole world! We ask you to join with us to intercede during this fall holiday season for God's will to be done in all the nations."

Arni Klein of Emmaus Way in the Galilee writes, "
We have found it quite common, for we who don’t fit into the mold of the world, or for that matter much of the church, to feel somewhat isolated and alone. If you are part of that company, you should know that we are actually far from being alone.... With all that has happened in the world to date, never has there been such division and unrest. On the surface, such a statement would be anything but good news. But if we understand this is the day of the sword of the Lord, it takes on quite a different dimension." And, "The insanity of the hour has unsheathed the sword that Yeshua came to bring."

Klein writes about the Israeli quarantine: "...the projected date for Israel to allow tourists into the country is set to not be before October 1st. There is an expectation that the date will be pushed back into next year....just published in the New York Times: “Up to 90% of people testing positive for Corona barely have any virus"....a person with such a minimal degree would be without symptoms and not contagious. The number of positive tests alone are being used to justify the shutdown." And, "Keeping tourists out of Israel is in effect keeping believers out of Israel. Tourists in Israel are mostly believers from the nations. If we think it through and connect the dots, it is obvious how important it is for the kingdom of darkness to keep worshipers from the nations out of Israel. The battle is spiritually based. Conditions on the ground are changed through spiritual actions....This letter is a call for prayer."

From the ministry leaders of Kerem-El in the Mt Carmel region, Yonatan Arnold and Stefan & Keren Silver, write about the struggle in Israel managing the Coronavirus. "Now we--who have the confidence, security and assurance in our God and Savior--have the space to speak the powerful truth of a reality where the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is yet in control of our today's and tomorrow's. More than that, he is engaged with us, loving, guiding, caring, providing, and encouraging those who abide in him." They enjoyed some times of fellowship together during the summer, but now are in lockdown again thru the 3 weeks of the High Holy Days. They are asking for financial partnership in two primary areas: 1. financial aid for the needy (so many congregational members lost jobs & face uncertain futures due to the virus; and 2. video recording equipment to live-stream services in order to comply with govt regulations. Learn how to donate on their website

Ron Cantor of Messiah's Mandate sends prayer requests for Hebrew language online Shelanu TV which has almost 20K views on some of their videos. Prayers for the local Israeli team as they are producing new content in Hebrew, and as well, as using content from every sector of the body in Israel. One new program in development is a testimony show called, "The Living Room." Of course donations toward this important outreach is also something to pray over. Currently Ron is in the United States in a joint agenda to raise partners for Shelanu TV and to let everyone know about the new book he has written, Birth Pangs.

Ron also writes about the ordeal the Tikkun leadership has gone through over the past 3 years based on accusations "from a small group of leaders in Israel (causing alarm amongst a larger group of leaders), things seem to be coming to an end. This still could end in a split in the body of believers in Israel. Most of it is been based on misinformation, false accusations" and Ron says on their part, "poor communication." He writes, "Over the past seven months Asher Intrater and myself have been meeting with two other leaders, going through tons of material to help them truly understand what we believe and what we don't believe. These meetings have been a great blessing and the spirit between the four of us has been amazing—may God transfer that spirit to the larger group of leaders! Out of those meetings have come several documents that are now in the hands of the board of the national conference of Messianic leaders here in Israel. Please pray for God’s will to be done here. Pray for clarity over confusion. Pray for facts over falsehoods. Pray for unity over division."

Shani Ferguson writes for the weekly Maoz prayer requests about her experience in middle school when the Gulf War sent them flying to don gas masks, protective suits and be in the sealed from within 5 minutes. They conducted drills to ensure they could do it. It reminded me of my husband and I watching live news from Israel each night as Saddam Hussein rained down scud missiles on Israel. It was nightly high anxiety watching the scuds come in —so immediate to me I felt as if swat teams would be breaking through our front door any minute! As Shani wrote, "This upbringing solidified in me my utter dependence on God for real-life protection. When Israelis sing worship songs about God as our fortress and refuge—we don’t just mean figuratively; we really mean a tangible refuge to protect from actual harm. So as we see random street violence and riots breaking out all over the world in areas that are used to the rule of law, let us be solid in God as our physical defense in times of trouble."

Shani also writes of LIttle Hearts, the believer kindergarten run by the Birgitta, a worship musician in the Fellowship of Artists. The lockdown really devastated them, but funds were raised to set them right, now a 2nd lockdown is again causing them to need a new infusion of donations. Can you help? Watch this special Rosh Hashana musical greeting. Also in general, Maoz is trying to meet the needs of families who are suffering once again in the 2nd lockdown. Pray about helping them meet the needs and also about the Ferguson family plans to fly to the US in Nov..." as of now, we don’t even know if those flights will be available."

Dov Bikas sends a short update on their activities with the men's Rehab Center and the Women’s Shelter. He sent an amazing before & after of young woman in the Women's shelter, whose life story is so sad - widow from the Ukraine from one of the epicenters of the war where she was cruelly raped by a group of soldiers. Her mother-in-law invited her to come to Israel. She did but one night after working in a restaurant was kidnapped by the taxi driver and held in his home treating her to violence. She ended up in an Israeli mental hospital and when she came out she met a man who said he wanted to marry her but he turned out to be a drug addict and began giving her drugs to forget her traumatic past. Then she ended up on the street. Society looks down on people like this, but the Women's Shelter took her in like the story of the good Samaritan. The difference in her before and after shows she is responding to being truly loved on for a change. Dov asks "Please pray for her healing and salvation, & that authorities will let her stay in the country until she is well enough to return to independent life. He also shares the story of a man they have taken into the men's rehab who is very sick with an undiagnosed illness that is rapidly causing his physical deterioration Pray for him and all the other God is sending them.

Cody & Liat Archer write, " This week we met with Eitan Shishkoff (Founder of Fields of Wheat - FoW) and Joel Jelski for a time of prayer, fellowship and talking about the next steps for us as a team. Eitan tenderly shared with tears in his eyes about how much it means to him that both our family and the Jelski's have moved to the North of Israel to help give practical expression to the vision he received from the Lord and has been burning on his heart for over a decade. Eitan is a very loving, pastoral father to us and it is our joy serve alongside him. VIDEO Greetings from Eitan!"

Avishalom Tekle of Tents of Mercy in Kiryat Yam writes about the successful holiday food distribution that the completed of 800 bags to families just before the lockdown commences before the High Holy Days. Avi writes, " This plunges us all into a very difficult time. We were just starting to feel a semblance of normalcy, with businesses picking up and the school year beginning. The idea of returning to lockdown is like diving into water without being able to take a deep breath. As you all know (and must feel keenly yourselves) this has been going on for over 6 months. The lack of congregational fellowship and the overall stress of economic challenges is obviously affecting our community life on a local and national scale. We would greatly appreciate your prayers over the next few weeks. On a personal note, we ask for your prayers for stamina, strength and creativity as we navigate these days."
They are continuing to hold Shabbat services online, so if you can subscribe to the
Tents of Mercy YouTube Channel and "it will be almost like coming to Israel and attending our Shabbat service. A new recording is uploaded each Saturday morning at 10:30am (Israel time)."

And Avi and Chaya Mizrachi of the Tel Aviv Dugit Messianic Outreach Centre and Kehilat Adonai Roi (The Lord is my Shepherd) give a wonderful testimony of two ladies who came for food to the distribution center, but saw there was wonderful spiritual food available too. "...suddenly one lady said to David that she could tell from his face that he was very content with life. Yes, he told her, he was content. After all of the things that he had gone through in life, he was very happy because he knew he was where God wanted him to be, and he now has everything he needs. She asked how this had happened for him. David told the ladies his testimony about how he had met God and He set him free from a lifetime of drugs. Both ladies were excited to hear his story and wanted to know more. So, David explained that meeting God is not a religion, but a personal relationship with a real person. As the ladies asked question after question, he continued to tell them about what it was to have a relationship with God. Suddenly, one of the women began to cry. Her nephew had been addicted to drugs and recently committed suicide. She saw the difference that God had made in David’s life and wished her nephew could have had the same experience." Both of the ladies prayed the prayer of salvation. Dugit writes, "This kind of life-changing ministry is happening here continuously, thanks to your support. We are so blessed that God is still working in Israel—and that He is using Dugit to make an eternal difference in people’s lives. Please donate to help us."

They are also trying to meet the needs during this 2nd lockdown for those in Tel Aviv and write, "May I ask you to join with us in helping meet these overwhelmingly desperate needs during what should be a festive time? Please give generously. Your donation of any amount helps us reach countless people here as we express the love of Messiah in a PRACTICAL WAY so that we can share the Good News of Messiah in a POWERFUL WAY!

A Lesson for Hard Times | Arrows from Zion 9/11/2020

A Lesson for Hard Times - Gleaned from Israel's History
by Guy Cohen, Harvest of Asher in Acco

"Hardships often prepare ordinary people
for an extraordinary destiny."
- C. S. Lewis

The world is going through a hard time…again.

Just a few weeks ago Israel commemorated the 9th of the Hebrew month of Av, as they have been doing for millennia. This solemn anniversary culminates the annual three week “dire straits” period of mourning over the destruction of the first and second temples in Jerusalem as well as other disasters in Jewish history.

As the world faces the current pandemic and the other events that have brought fear and strife to many nations, I want to go back in history, focusing on Israel in order to draw a parallel to our current difficulties. 2 Kings 19:15-19 records Hezekiah's response to a fearsome threat of impending destruction in Jerusalem. What did he do? He brought it before God. He literally spread out the pieces of paper with the written military threat, in the temple, and cried out, “Open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God.” (verse 16)

Hezekiah was a king in crisis, in spite of having restored Israel to following God's way of holiness, and in spite of having destroyed the idols! Now he was in the middle of a storm, just as big as ours or bigger. With encouragement from his “buddy” Isaiah, he persevered in faith—through conflict and trouble. In the end, he was victorious. This is where we are today, watching Israel and other nations being pressured from every direction. People are changing before our eyes—looking inward at their individual needs and responding with anger at governments and those in authority. We are in a time of trouble which is affecting the health of the nation as well as the economy, security and future.

In Israel, we face military threats, as in the time of Hezekiah. Meanwhile, brother is turning against brother. Will we and our leaders rise up and run to God as Hezekiah did? Or will we put our trust in something else (foreign gods and idols), succumbing in the end to their authority and not God's? Have we even noticed that, in the meantime, the enemy has arrived at our borders with Gaza and Lebanon, waiting for our destruction?

The book of Lamentations is read in its entirety on the eve of 9th of Av. In the face of the coronavirus, the words ring truer than ever. I feel as if we have never been closer to the physical and spiritual condition of Jeremiah's day than now. Mankind so easily forgets God until a time of dire need arises. With God’s righteous judgment impending, may the world not be found lacking (like Sodom and Gomorrah) in men and women of righteousness, those who know the Lord and are ready to stand in the gap for their nation. As we draw closer to the fulfillment of all things, we join in agreement with the closing words of Lamentations 5:21: “Turn us again to Yourself, O Lord, and we will be restored.”

Thanks to Yeshua, we are the righteous of this day, standing as Hezekiah stood. May the Spirit of God lead us in intercession for our people and nation.

Arrows from Zion
Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries by subscription only donna@israelprayer.com

Arni Klein of Emmaus Way writes 8/29 about the roller coaster ride that most of us have gone through emotionally trying to process the unimaginable changes we have gone through this year with the explosion of the Chinese Coronavirus Pandemic. By this time we have heard so many things it is a wonder anyone has faith in the authorities. Arni says he has been through all that too but beings us back to, why has God allowed it? What is God looking to turn for good out of what the enemy has meant for evil?

Arni writes, "There will be no quick fix for the systemic deception overrunning the world. It did not start yesterday, and it will not be gone in any soon tomorrow. The answer is not in a new revelation, insight, prophetic word, or something that God is just starting to do right now. The road through is from ancient days. This path long untraveled has become overgrown with thorns and thistles. We’ve been lost for a while and haven’t known it.... It doesn’t take a genius or a prophet to understand that financial destruction resulting from an extended global lockdown supplies one essential dynamic further paving the way for the imposition of a world economic system that would enable totalitarian control over society. How close we are to that day is hard to say....

"What do we know? What do we know for sure?  We find two things. One is that we do not know how the coming days will play out. The second is, God is the answer. Not God has the answer. Not God is in control. Not God knows. But He alone, the Captain of the Lord’s host, is sufficient and able to stand in the face of this present darkness....We are in a battle that is too great for us. The Covid-19 chapter of human history has brought into the open a view of the advanced level of the existing technologies along with the plans and motivations of a consortium of powerful leaders from almost every arena of life. We suggest that it has been grace and mercy from Father that has exposed what has been held in secret for decades. What man means for evil, God means for good." Amen, and amen!

Daniel and Shirya Yahav write from Tiberias, the Face of God Fellowship (Peniel) about how they are adjusting to all the changes Covid restrictions have brought onto their large congregation and school for children. They are doing online messages, but also home groups in order to keep people in fellowship. One area of prayer is for the small groups that are struggling with the resources to teach the children in their small groups. Also last school year ended in a deficit of several hundred thousand dollars, due to a drop in donations, probably caused by the affect of Corona. They are praying for more support for this coming school year and are pressing ahead in faith. In other news they are having babies born with spiritually faith building stories, but also a number of members who are in need of healing. They ask also for the blindness too be lifted from their people, so more of their unbelieving relatives, neighbours, colleagues, and citymen can come to the faith of Yeshua, Messiah of Israel.

In Kfar Saba the Hamaayan, Congregation of the Wellspring, which is led by Tony and Orna Sperandeo share their ministry newsletter on their blog - packed full of new and prayer points.

Cody and Liat Archer, who have transitioned from Revive Israel in Jerusalem to Fields of Wheat in the Golan Heights, write about the 90 visitors they've had since moving to the Golan in early July. They write that it is due to a focus in the last decade on building relationships and investing into people. This focus will serve them well as they begin their vision to build a home fellowship discipling young people and reaching the lost in the North of Israel. They are already reaching out and making friends of all ages in their new community. Their children are just starting school and they ask prayers for their family for overflowing favor and love as we make new connections. Connect with them

Eric Benson at Beit Nitzachon, House of Victory writes about how blessed they are to people following and commenting on the ministry on Facebook. They  were blessed with a pro building contractor who has been able to help them with renovations that really required pro guidance, so they are working even during the heatwave and on a stairway they joke about having "existed since the time of the Ottoman Turkish Empire." They have taken in an elderly man who had no place to go even though he was not an addict. He man appealed to him, “I have heard that you were the people who help people.” Eric writes, "Thirty years ago when Pastor David Davis and his wife Karen started this ministry, one of the first people who came to the center said those exact words. In the moment he spoke it, these words came into my spirit “These are the roots of House of Victory.” Click to listen to Eric preach on the Gifts of the Spirit at the Carmel Congregation.

Leon Mazin, leader of the Return to Zion congregation in Haifa has A Prayer for Humanity. "Probably not everyone knows this, but four of the Israeli Prime Ministers were born in Belarus. Other leaders of Israel are children or grandchildren of those who left Belarus, Ukraine, Russia and Poland. I as well was born in Belarus." If you are a news watcher, you have probably heard about the great unrest there as they people are fighting back against a dictatior. If not read
Belarus protests: who are the key players and what do they want? More than that, Etic asks you: "I ask you to pray for Belarus, for the Freedom of the people. Hold us in the arms of your prayer, us and our team in Israel!"

From Maoz ministries Shani Ferguson writes The Fun Commandments about the High Holy Days beginning in mid-September.  “Can or should Christians join in these Biblical anniversaries?” Shani writes, "The short answer—according to what the early Jewish believers decided in the book of Acts in regard to Gentile believers is: yes, you absolutely can; no, you are not required to. Whether you’ve never heard of these holidays, or you've celebrated them for years, you may appreciate insight from Israel."

Chuck Cohen of Intercessors for Israel in Jerusalem has their prayer point online here: Friday Prayer Points 9/4/20 and for 9/11/20

Good to hear from Rachel and Gilad Netanel who continue to show hospitality to visitors, groups and to share their testimony in the faith.  Rachel writes, "Gilad and I have had so many more opportunities to share the Gospel during these troubled times than ever before. In the last month and a half alone, we have enjoyed sharing with at least 5 groups and individuals in our home in Ein Kerem and in our place in Zukim in the desert. More than 150 people have come through our gates and none left without hearing at least part of the Gospel." After sharing many encouraging stories in her letter Rachel writes, "Thank you, dear friends, for standing with us with your support and prayers. We pray that the Lord will keep you safe, healthy and filled with His peace especially during these days.  It is a great comfort and encouragement for us to know that you are standing with us."

Carolyn Hyde has returned to Israel in time to see a new granddaughter born (well almost, she had to quarantine during the actual birth) and Richard has stayed behind in Iowa where people have been picking up the pieces of their lives after a land-based hurricane called a derecho swept through. Richard is using his trauma counseling to help people. In Israel, they along with their son Avi-Asher Hyde & the media team at Tree of Life Israel have put out a new video in conjunction with Be'ad Chaim, the pro-life ministry of Israel called Saving Lives from Abortion. Carolyn writes about another of their videos having impact, "Last week an Orthodox Jew who had seen our video about fear contacted me and now I'm talking with this person's friends too! The L-rd gave me a prophetic word for one person and after sharing, they gave a heavy burden over to Yeshua and prayed for deliverance in His name." She shares that there were many divine appointments in their summer tour in the US...many are asking about Aliyah, "What do we need to do to come home?"

From Asher Intrater's Revive Israel Two online Praise, Prayer, Prophecy and Preaching -- Global Broadcasts with the  Revive Israel Worship Team and preaching for Sept 1 and Sept 8. Also on Revive Israel's Facebook page, enjoy Wednesday Worship with Paul Wilbur, and also his "Shabbat in Your Home" each week.

The Bass family have had another wedding, with Tal and Eden marrying on Sep 3. Mazal Tov to all. The Beer Sheva congregation has had many comings and goings - mostly young people following their callings and careers. As Howard writes, "The Lord is faithful, and we need to trust Him for the continuing life and ministries of Nachalat Yeshua, which has produced much good fruit till now.  We also have new Israeli students coming to study in Beer Sheva, and some have already "plugged into" the fellowship." They have also had three baptisms over the summer. Howard writes, "For any of you following our series on the Book of Daniel, you can see the latest (since our last letter) on Chap 8, 9, and 10 on the website, plus a couple of other articles, especially A Bitter Root Defiles Many, which shows the connection of the current dissatisfaction and rioting and intersectionality with the bitter root that was in Esau.  You can usually find these teachings and articles also on Kehila News."

This urgent prayer request from Michael Beener in City of Life in Sderot, "We strongly request your special prayers for our headquarters building of our “City Of Life” ministry in Sderot which is currently in danger of being unjustly closed by the authorities due to false accusations and pressure from the religious sector on the Urban Planning Minister. We ask that you be covering our building in prayer, so that our attorneys can reach an agreement with the city attorneys and we do not have the need to go through a trial in court." They must raise $10,000 to renew the the old and precarious fire extinguishing system before the imminent controls of the Urban Planning Office that are looking for reasons to close the place, as well as the hateful comments in the digital media that incite to "set fire to the missionaries."  They are continuing to minister to the people of Sderot and you can help them with their Back to School Project, food coupons and holiday food distribution also.
