Arrows from Zion
Prayer Requests Points from Israeli Messianic Jewish & Christian Arab Ministry Leaders

The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) announced on Tuesday that it has recovered dozens of fragments of a biblical scroll for the first time in about 60 years .... The “new” Dead Sea Scroll fragments, include portions from the Book of 12 Minor Prophets, including the books of Zechariah and Nahum.
Wow! Avner Boskey must be quite elated with the news of this discovery which included "portions from the Book of 12 Minor Prophets, including the books of Zechariah and Nahum." Avner has just completed the whole series of video teachings on "The Minor Prophets" as part of their Ezekiel 27 Institute. Watch the series on YouTube at their Signet Ring Media channel.

Transitions
2021 & the Biblical New Year
by Donna Diorio

March 16, 2021/Nisan 3: It is so interesting to me —because I wasn't really paying attention — that Sunday 3/14 was the real biblical Jewish New Year that God gave —the first of Nisan. The one in the fall is not the date God gave as the beginning of the New Year.
It struck me because I was just reading Peter Robertson's post on the real Jewish New Year and how it is: "The Biblical New Year’s Day seems to be featured in a prophecy that is as of yet unfulfilled. In the Temple that is found on the pages of Ezekiel the prophet, the first day of the first month is designated as the annual day on which to purify the sanctuary. It is an annual new beginning for this Temple on the New Year’s Day. “Thus says the Lord God: In the first month, on the first day of the month, you shall ... purify the sanctuary.”               In Nate Johnston's prophetic word, he was talking about how it was a time of transition - a new beginning from what was described as a vision that had been so long in coming it was almost given up on. That sure describes the transition I am suddenly personally sensing for myself.  As of Monday which was Nisan 2, it has seemed to me a transition that I have been waiting to see for the Israeli Messianic believers for a couple of decades has begun.
For them it has been more than just a couple of decades of longing for the time.              It is always the waiting that tests us. It seems we are just not used to God's timing
— it is so different from our own sense of what the timing should be.
A  friend who is a long time intercessor for the Israeli body of believers, Liz Rhodes, wrote on Sunday that she had just had a retinal membrane removed from her eyes three days earlier. She even sent
a video of the process of peeling away the thin membrane that had developed over her central vision. Liz wrote,
" Sometimes these membranes spontaneously peel off themselves, so I had actually waited several years praying for healing. Then I felt soooo strong that it was the time to get this done. It became an intercessory act: I prayed and interceded as I watched the veil come off my own eye.  As the membrane was peeled away, the veil lifted —praying even more so for the spiritual veil over the eyes of Israel be peeled back and removed. Then this morning I watched church service from home.  My pastor started the service by reciting the Shema reading the prayer of repentance prayed around the world by the Jewish people and asking for Messiah to come. Then he lead the congregation in prayer for the salvation of the Jewish people. . .TODAY!  That was a first and took me by surprise to say the least. Could it really be that the veil over the Gentile church is coming off as well?  Yes, yes, and yes! I believe it."
If you are a student of the Old Testament, you see that although "instant" miracles do happen, in the lives of the people who became pivotal in God's will, they were usually not the ones who instantly rose to prominence. They weren't the ones others looked to for leadership or even input. I think we are in a generation of people who are pivotal to God's will in the coming next few years —when I say "a generation" it is the whole generation of people, from the youngest to the oldest, none is doing this without the other. It will take the vibrancy of youth and the wisdom of the aged. Only God gets the glory, not any age group in our generation.
One of my favorite verses is the encouragement to "Faint not, for in due season we will reap if we do not faint." When we faint, it is like we become overwhelmed: feeling weak, dizzy, exhausted, we lose consciousness. When something is faint it is lacking brightness, vividness, clearness, loudness, strength. Another favorite verse is that "Faith and patience inherit the promises."
I believe we are in a time of transition, and there has been plenty to make us feel faint in every sense of the word, but now is the time to stir ourselves in our most holy faith to press into the promises of God that He stirred up in us. Opposition will not stop as we are pressing in, but this is a time of vision renewal, so we can again see ourselves standing in the promises we have held in our hearts.
"For I know the plans that I have for you, says the LORD, plans for good and not evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries

Asher Intrater of Tikkun Ministries writes about the real biblical New Year which began Sunday, Nisan 1"half way between Purim (in the middle of the twelfth month) and Passover (in the middle of the first month). A spiritual change of seasons is taking place here. Something is definitely transitioning. We believe this is also a new period for the relationship between Israel and the Church. The convergence of these two divine vehicles is ever increasing. Romans 11 promises that the "grafting in" of the international and Israelite branches of the "olive tree" will bring about five great results. Read more in his New Year and the Glory of God. Dan Juster's The Israel Elections and the Ultra-Orthodox Jews, Book: That They May Be One, and Moshe Morrison's Pigs Have Kosher Feet.

The monthly  news & prayer letter from the Wellspring, HaMaayan congregation which is led by Tony and Orna Sperandeo, is available this month on their blog - plus all the accompanying pictures.

David & Josie Silver send a monthly family update on their doings, as Israel is gradually expected to emerge from lockdowns that have kept David grounded from international touring, and Josie's
annual prayer summit / tour cancelled for the 2nd time over the 2-Covid years. But they are keeping on with ministry in the form newsletters & Zoom meetings. (David's most recent video update March 13.) Their son Stefan and wife Keren, are busy pastoring at the Kerem-el congregation, but  Stefan will also be returning to an active part of in David & Josie's Our of Zion ministry beginning in March. "Because we have no idea when it will become possible to recommence our ministry to the Body of Messiah in the nations, we are rethinking how we can move forward and increase our ability to bring the Word of the LORD out of Zion, and to continue to encourage an increase in the level of prayer and intercession for Israel and for the salvation of the Jewish people. So you can look forward to hearing more of Stefan's biblical insights which are rooted in his excellent understanding of the Hebrew language." Their other son and daughter-in-law, Jordan and Limor work with the Carmel congregation's video production team, and Limor is the office administrator for the Messianic health workers ministry that is run by Keren's father.  They ask prayers for their entire family as they continue to work to "to fulfill the apostolic calling on the Jewish people to be a blessing and a light to the nations. " You can partner with them in many ways, including by donation.

I just want to reiterate how Covid has been tough on the whole world, but it has really made the whole body of believers in Israel economically stressed. We really need to step up to the plate to help as much as we can.

Shirya Yahav sends the Peniel Fellowship ministry letter on behalf of herself and Daniel Yahav in Tiberias. They are seeking ways to keep the unity within the congregation over covid vaccinations which has severely divided Israelis in two. One side is super pro-vaccination, the other pro-individual freedom to choose. Most of the congregations are mentioning this is an issue for them to be able to find the right balance in order to open their congregations, yet keep the peace in such an atmosphere of divisive issues. Prayer for this is a good one to pray for all the congregations.

There are some silver linings, they report, to the year of Covid lockdowns, unexpected like the teenager what was diagnosed as ADHD soaring to the top of her class in grading once she began studying at home via internet. Shirya says several other moms of teenagers in public school have reported the same. Also three prodigal sons from believing families have returned to the faith during this period. ...and they also ask, like all the other ministries, for your prayers over their election—it is a mess and needs a God-intervention!  You can access Peniel "daily teaching as well as the Shabbat services with a translation into English, German, Russian and Spanish can be found at the Peniel website and on our YouTube channel  We thank you and value your prayers very very much!"

Kobi & Shani Ferguson's Fellowship of Artists concert did take place against a lot of obstacles and the location they shot in the Judean Hills is truly breathtaking. They are in editing now and plan to release the concert on Shavuot during the Feast of First Fruits. In the Maoz Israel Report the continue How it All Began (Part 1 and Part 2) with part 3 The First Congregation —the first  in Israel to be "unapologetically geared towards building a Spirit-filled Hebrew-speaking community of Israelis."   In their weekly prayer letter, they wrote about Sects, which I wish had a link so everyone could read and know how to pray, as Shani highlights two issues: "...it is a mistake to generalize an entire community (Arabs are like this—Jews are like this….) due to the actions of a few. However, traumatic occurrences like this can create animosity towards an entire people group.... The second is that there are many small extreme groups in the country—both Jewish and Arab—who promote problematic behaviors because of a charismatic and manipulative spiritual leader. " It is not a lot to go on, but God knows exactly what you are talking about as your pray over these two key issues disrupting Israeli life.

Benjamin Juster sends out a monthly Restoration from Zion letter on behalf of himself & Lorena, and his parents, Daniel and Patty Juster. Ben is noting the biblical new year adding, "I am certainly experiencing a new season," commenting on their recent move back to the US from Israel in order for Ben to take heading the Tikkun America team. He writes that they continue to see the flowering of a new season of relationships with churches taking a stand with Israel. He writes, "Please pray that the special nature of our unity continues to develop and that we have an encounter with the Presence of God together...." From Daniel Juster, he writes about the controversies in Israel over the vaccines, saying, "My two important prayer requests are for the reopening of our congregation. May we have wisdom to follow the regulations of the government, but yet make progress. We miss meeting together very much. The other is the effort to relaunch an Israel Theological School for training leaders at all levels. We are making progress on this, and I am one of the four on the committee to work on this project. "

Dan adds: "...a few weeks ago I sent you an introduction and recommendation for Vladislav Naginer from Karkov, Ukraine. I have related to him for many years. He is one of the key teachers bringing solid biblical and Jewish reflections for the Messianic Jewish movement and the churches of Ukraine. In recent years, Vlad and his wife had had very hard physical medical challenges. However, he perseveres and continues teaching. ... . I sense call to help him build a support base. He does not need much.... His teaching is mostly in Russian of course). Please
email him to sign up to his teaching letters. His ministry is called "Jews, Christians and the Word of God."  To donate to Vlad's ministry visit Tikkun.

Lead pastor Gil Afrait at Tiferet Yeshua — the one featured above in the Maoz Israel Report —sends two articles,
A Season of Trials, and one by his wife Tamar Could Covid be a Blessing? Plus in their look into the Hebrew language, Hebrew Roots this issue they cover the Hebrew root "aflict" with word that come from the root: "season" and "answer" —"Sometimes God gives deeper answers through a season of affliction."

Chaim Malespin of the Aliyah Return Center writes, "In the history of the Aliyah Return Center, never have we been in a more trying time." He did not elaborate on that point but I want to add that they have become the target of religious persecution which has broken a key relationship they had with the Jewish Agency. For any believers in Yeshua as Messiah, the unwanted attention of religious opposition is surely going to come their way eventually. This does not stop the believers from praising God and continuing their work, but you should know that it is a heavy burden when the attention of Israel's religious activists fall on believers.  It is a good time to hold up Chaim and his team at the ARC for a special outpouring of grace, favor and help in funding the vision God has given the. They are working on a new vision for Lone Soldier Housing & you can watch this video to learn more.  Also, they invite you to unite with them online for a holy convocation March 27th, 2021 at 6 PM Israel time as we unravel an ancient mysterious correlation between the last supper, communion, the Passover lamb, the elements of the Passover Seder, and the Christians part in the ongoing exodus happening today while the prophecies relating to that are being fulfilled as we speak. We eagerly look forward to celebrating Passover with you.  Click to donate to the ARC

From Asher Intrater's Revive Israel
“Breaking the Vessels” → “Repairing the World” an article that reveals how Bible history for the nation of Israel is about several periods of dispersion and re-gathering. This is a very prominent aspect of Jewish thought, that is not found in most Christian (or secular) literature. " Destruction and disaster among the Jewish people would lead to salvation and redemption to the nations, and then the Jewish people would be restored.  That is the mystical view of “breaking of the vessels” and “repairing the world,” he writes. "There is a divine purpose and logic behind these disasters, in which the greater and wider good will be made apparent later on. To every dream and vision, there is a death and rebirth.  May God give us all more grace, faith, hope, and perseverance to walk out what is hidden from us in times of horribly painful scattering and suffering. "

Ashdod Beit Hallel pastor Israel Pochtar sends this VIDEO & article "And now I entrust you to God and the message of His grace". Also, For a small country like Israel, People — Israel's Biggest Asset. This is why new immigrants are so important to this land, and God made it very clear that we are not only to receive them, but we are to take care of them in their time of need because He mentioned that not only the strong and healthy will arrive, but the vulnerable and the sick. We cannot turn away from their needs. To help them: donate

Ron Cantor of Messiah's Mandate writes about the elections...and it's not pretty. He writes, "The division taking place within—over coronavirus vaccines and lockdowns—are turning Israelis on one another." There is not a clear winner in sight. But at Shelanu TV—24/7 Hebrew, Yeshua-centered TV the Word of God is going forth and changing lives in Israel.  It is a digital channel that is reaching in places that were unreachable before.  Take a peek at the Hebrew Gospel channel and help them by donating.

From Avishalom Tekle at Tents of Mercy in northern Israel, they are preparing for Passover 2021 Update (video). Avi writes, "This time of the year that we gear up to do our Passover city wide Outreach. This year we are trying to reach as many as we can, as the COVID crisis has hit so many families and affected their livelihood. We want to thank you for your partnership and prayer covering for us during these days."  Can you help?

Gilad Rosinger of Radiant Israel  continues their Global Shabbat Livestream & Prayer Calls via AUDIO only  OR Video On YouTube OR Facebook. "Many people all over the world are going through different challenges; depression, oppression, anxiety, poverty, persecution - the list goes on. That is why it is our heart to stand together unified as one Body and one Mind to provide more information about the gift of Sabbath rest that is for everyone and create a space where we can all come together for support. " Click here to become a Global Shabbat FB Group Member!  Click to Donate to our ministry. Also: Mazal Tov to the Rosinger's who are expecting another "radiant" Rosinger in the months ahead.

Michael Beener in  Sderot at Ir HaHaim, City of Life, is also getting prepared to go out to reach the most needy in our city Sderot by distributing food baskets, supermarket coupons and other amazing gifts. Watch and read Passover is Soon! to see how they will bless more than 500 families in Sderot.  You can help one family with only $30. Learn about all their Compassionate Outreach Projects.

Guy Cohen sends a teaching that addresses how the Covid crisis has many people " in a dilemma regarding where to stand in making critical decisions. Many in the body here in Israel and in the rest of the world; from all branches of the faith, have been found to be struggling with how to respond to situations and questioning what exactly is or is not compromise."  He concludes, and I agree: "Where does all this uncertainty lead us? It should lead us to the realization of how critical it is to hear God. Even the Word does not necessarily give us a one step at a time solution to every situation we may find ourselves in. From within the framework of God's word we must hear from the Spirit of God. We must come before God and close out all the noise around us; whether family and friends, media and even leaders. At some point it will be us seeking God for the answer."

Peter Tsukahira is a co-founding pastor at the Carmel Congregation in Haifa. He just returned from 2 months in the USA visiting family and was there for the birth of one of his grandchildren, but also the night he returned to Israel his 99-year old mother passed into eternity with God.  He writes, " This experience has served to deeply impact my heart with the importance of family. The Bible is filled with stories about families. It has been said that the greatest example of a family is that of Father God Who created children in His image and His continuing desire and struggle to redeem them from sin and live in loving relationship to Him. Yeshua taught us to pray, “Our Father, who is in heaven…” Faith in Yeshua is an invitation to join the family of God and truly know God as our Father.... In this special season, we are called to look carefully and lovingly at those closest to us. We have God-given bonds of relationship with family members who believe and with others who still do not believe. All of our family members are given to us by God. Be encouraged to humanly love, serve, pray and reach out to everyone in your family knowing that this is the will of God for you. " It is a beautiful encouragement.

The HaCarmel congregation continues to help the needy in their community with Hot Meals with Love and recently hosted the
Heal Our Land prayer initiative focusing on abortion.  HaCarmel will not be livestreaming Mar 27 due to Passover but here are some recent broadcasts: Shabbat Meeting | Midweek Meeting. Also Subscribe to our YouTube channel and you can receive notifications when we post a new video or livestream.

Howard Bass of the Yeshua's Inheritance congregation have an online
Passover Haggadah in five languages at their Kehilat Nachalat website.  Howard writes, "I do not ever remember (which might not mean much) Passover beginning at the end of a Shabbat. How will Jews, especially religious ones, prepare for Passover when they need to stop all of their preparations before the Sabbath begins on that Friday evening?! Israel also moves the clock forward for the summer on that Thursday night/Friday morning, the 26th." The congregation hosts a lot of international students every year - all of which are looking forward to when the congregation can meet together again post-Covid restrictions. While the lockdown has gone on, they have been doing renovations which are almost complete but donations to the work is still appreciated. They just started a new series on 1 Timothy, and you can find the two first installment on the congregation website. They are also starting a new house group for Hebrew only - studying Jonah to begin with. Our intention if for the elders (me and Eduardo) to begin leading and teaching the group, planning to hand it over to one among the appropriate younger persons later this year.  We also hope to get a better idea of those with potential responsible and mature leadership for more involvement in the congregation, and for opening other small groups.  The time is coming when this will be necessary as last-days prophecies come upon this generation. (Zec 1:5-6)

3 12 2021 Arrows from Zion | Recognizing the Grace

Prayer Requests Points from Israeli Messianic Jewish & Christian Arab Ministry Leaders

I am passing along David Lazarus' super important article on how empty-handed Christian efforts to evangelize Jews in Israel has been —and that is not just a timing issue. It really is a recognition of the grace God has given to Messianic Jews within Israel to minister the Gospel to Israelis. We are not talking about Christians backing of witnessing to Jews outside of Israel, but we need a breakthrough in our mindset that Israel is only going to come to faith if non-Jewish Christians come to evangelize them from the 4 corners of the earth. That is just having a blind eye to God's purposes in Israel and for Israel, and how we Christians are supposed to fit into helping those God-appointed laborers in the Israeli harvest fulfill their mandate. Lazarus article takes us back to the rarely seen history of pre-statehood Christian evangelizing of Jews in Israel. From 1821 up to date as just last week we learned a Christian missionary had been arrested in Ashdod for handing out pamphlets to minors. Every Messianic Jewish Israeli knows that is against the law, but it is not surprising that a Christian missionary would not either know it, or respect that it is illegal to attempt to convert a minor in Israel. This historical perspective in Lazarus' article is necessary for both Messianic Jews & Christians to know.

Recognizing the Grace
by Donna Diorio

I won't say that Christians being drawn to evangelize Israelis is a completely bad thing because it does serve a purpose in turning Christian hearts toward Israel. Even though Christians have mostly read the timing of Israel's spiritual restoration wrong, or without having an appreciation for historic Christian persecution and/or forcing conversions of Jews, at least some Christians understood that God DOES want to restore Israel,  the Jewish people, back to relationship with Himself through the faith of Jesus. We've gotten that much but in terms of desired results? Not so much.
We Christians, after preaching the Gospel to Israel to no avail, then moved to win Israelis over by gifts — schools, hospitals, humanitarian aid, jobs and many more incentives. Israel accepts the gifts, but not the Gospel.
According to David Lazarus' article, this gifting strategy was adopted in the 1800's before the modern state of Israel even existed. But Jews were in Israel and so were the Christians who came to convert them to Christianity. To this day Christians are trying to do the same thing now as they did in the 1800's, to persuade Israel that because of our assistance to Israel, that it is okay for them to become Christians. It hasn't been an effective appeal, but that hasn't slowed many down from repeating over and over what isn't working.
Why isn't it working? Well, for one thing because it is not in God's timing. It didn't work in the 1800's because, if we can borrow from Ezekiel's vision of the dry bones, those dry bones had not been called back together again to stand on its own feet as a modern nation of Israel. There are certain things that have to be in place before it is God's timing.
The next reason is the anointing and the mandate from God to spread the Gospel in Israel rests on the Messianic body in Israel. In Romans 11:9, the apostle Paul talks about how the apostolic pillars of the faith in the first century, James, Peter and John, recognized the grace that was given by God for Paul and Barnabas to minister and preach the Gospel to the nations.
In our day that is what is missing in reverse: for the nations to recognize the grace given by God to minister the Gospel in Israel rests on the Messianic Jews of Israel.  That's what's missing here, "recognition of the grace."
David Lazarus wrote the fact that should be clearly recognizable by now,  "Christian missions to Israel have been trying to convert Jews to Christ for over 200 years – without much success. As the Messianic Jewish movement emerged in the 1970s and began forming Messianic congregations around the country, Jews started coming to believe in Yeshua (Jesus), and people got nervous."
When Israel became a state — when the dry bones came together as a body and stood on its own feet — that is when the timing of God for the spiritual restoration of Israel began unfolding. In 1948 there were only 20 documented Messianic Jews in Israel, we know because Israel offered the financial incentive if they  would leave, but they wouldn't. Now 73 years later best estimates are that 15-20,000 Israeli Messianic Jews exist.
After the 1970's Jesus Movement in America produced the Messianic Movement, a great many of those Messianic Jews who became believers, including congregational leaders, followed the Spirit's call to immigrate to Israel. They left lives that were a lot more comfortable, a lot easier, a lot better financially and a lot less spiritually pressurized. Just living in Israel is a pressure cooker but Messianic Jews are faced with at times intense spiritual opposition on top of that! Why do they do it? They committed to the high calling of God for the salvation of Israel. They are paying what it costs to be a Jewish minister of the Gospel in Israel.  In my 20 years of hanging on the words Israeli ministries each week, rarely do I hear anything but the hopeful pressing forward in their calling to bring the Gospel to Israelis of every walk of life.
If only every single Christian who understands God wants to bless Israel with the ultimate blessing of faith in Yeshua, would also have the "recognition of the grace" that rests on the Israeli Messianic believers to bring the Gospel to their own people, we could make a great leap forward in this. Then those who really wanted to help to Israel come to faith in greater numbers, would become "help-mates" to those who are laboring in Lord's harvest in their own land. Help-mates who would support the outreaches of the congregations and ministries in Israel who are ministering the Gospel to Israelis. Help-mates in supplying humanitarian aid through the Messianic ministries in Israel, which greatly enhances their standing in their cities and regions.
What a great difference we would see spring forth as congregations and ministries were able to bring on salary believer need to best do the job of spreading the Gospel —that God-called evangelist that needs to feed his family of five and can't without an income.  Or ministry staff. Or equipment or more finances for the outreaches.
What a difference it would make if Christians didn't think they had to be the boots on the ground, when the real effectiveness has already been demonstrated to be the boots that are already on the ground —the boots worn by Israeli Messianic believers who already walking a mile in the same living experiences as other Israelis. Christians are used by God in the whole world to witness to Jews in their nations. In Israel there is another dynamic and that dynamic is completely overlooked by those who want to go to Israel more than they want to see an effective witness go forth in Israel. (Oops! Did I just say that out loud?)
What a difference when Christians comprehend that our role is to pray for the breath of the Holy Spirit to enter the dry bones so Israel can come spiritually to life in Messiah. What a difference when Christians realize our call from God is to pray for the salvation of Israel, and to be help-mates of those laborers in the Lord's harvest in Israel.  We don't have to physically be those laborers, but we have to support the laborers who are there to do their ministries, and to continue training younger generations of Israelis to join the spiritual labor force.  It is so close. Can't you feel it?

Rania Sayegh of the Nazareth House of Prayer & Exploits sends a report on the Arab Deborahs Meeting which featured teaching by Barbara Yoder. You may have never seen an Israeli Christian Arabs worship meeting before. Please watch  The teaching was in English translated into Arabic, you can view it here. She also writes, " We do not know if we will be able to secure the new build that we shared in the vision but we are trusting God that His timing is perfect. Either the building will remain available, or He will lead us to another beautiful property. If you want to give towards this project, please add "New Building Project." We are rejoicing in the amazing provision that has already come in. We still need $230,000 for the first payment."

Evan Levine, who is also a worship leader and recorded worship minister in Israel, has been doing many groundbreaking humanitarian projects in Israel from the beginning of the HaTikva project - things so one else was doing like the Dental Clinics set up to help the Messianic believers get affordable dental work and also to help the needy unbelievers too. Then came their entry into adoption and foster parenting. The latest is to open one of the first emergency shelters of its kind in Israel for vulnerable children called HaTikvah House.  Great humanitarian operation to plant seed donations in.

The latest Maoz Israel Report is out and Shani Ferguson is asking, Four Elections in Two Years: Why?  Shani writes, "Though Israelis are incredibly liberal on social issues, the need for security, due to being surrounded by Jewish-hating nations, takes priority in people’s minds over internal issues." But that vote may not go to Netanyahu because as she notes, " There is no question Netanyahu has done a good job over the years of protecting Israel from its enemies and moving Israel away from the socialist sphere into a solid capitalistic culture. So what’s the problem? His weakness is in the way he rules—which has become more obtrusive in the last few years as threats of a corruption trial intensified. "

At present the Covid vaccination deal that Netanyahu cut with Pfizer is turning out to be as emotionally charged in dividing the Israeli public as the last American presidential election has been U.S. citizens. The intensity of the differing views is causing great division and should be a major prayer point for Arrows subscriber/prayer warriors.  With that said, Arni Klien of Emmaus Way writes that his concerns are that Israel is leading the way in what may be the most dramatic restrictive policies in the world with regard to the "Green Passport". A not so gentle coercion to get citizens to take the vaccine so they are allowed to freely move about.  He is also concerned with the voices that have arisen to call the unvaccinated "enemies." This is a most serious prayer issue.

From the Jerusalem Intercessors for Israel Chuck Cohen writes in his Watchmen from Jerusalem Issue #1 , 2021, "Living in these chaotic and confusing days, we might wonder how we can continue to walk and co-labor with God when we are not really sure about what He is doing. Proverbs 3:5 is our answer: Trust in YHWH with all your heart [mind, emotions and will]; and lean not on your own understanding.  There are times when He wants us to know His will so that we pray with our spirit and understanding (1 Cor. 14:15). Yet there are other times when we are at a loss about what is happening to us or to our world. Can we then trust Him without demanding to know what, why, how, etc.? Can we walk by faith or has that sly spirit of humanism slipped into our lives so that we insist that it must make sense to us before we step out on the water?"  Read in full online

Ariel Hyde of Tree of Life ministries sent a report on the recent Heal Our Land prayer event. If you missed it you can still watch and pray now. He writes, " the video we showed near the end of the live stream that reveals the truth about abortion - will be released in English and many other languages in the coming weeks! Please share this video stream from our Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. Tree of Life asks prayers for the launch of their Pro-Life & Gospel campaign, for all the seekers who are contacting them , and for ongoing online evangelism, the new believers and their outreaches to the poor.

Chaim Malespin of the Aliyah Return Center has several videos to share regarding their outreaches, like food packages to Immigrants and holocaust survivors, in extreme poverty. The city called & 78 families waiting for help. Also, Chaim, who is master sergeant in the combat engineer elite corps, says, "Our troops need our support" - especially the "Lone Soldiers" who have no family in Israel as a support base. The Aliyah Return Center works to fill in that gap and recently began renovations of a Lone soldier warm house in town, near the sea of Galilee.

Rachel Netanel is overcoming a painful broken ankle but has many testimonies of events they have held for people who had literally nowhere else to go during Covid restrictions - of course these events whether a baby shower or a Shabbat dinner are all times when Rachel is able to share her faith with her guests, many respond to the call of the Lord for their faith. The hospitality visitors see from Rachel & Gilad and Rachel's natural boldness to speak of Yeshua, by the Spirit's leading in light of their needs, has not only planted many seeds of the Gospel, but it has reaped many for the kingdom of the LORD. During one of the busiest times of her life, she broke her ankle, and has to take injections daily for the pain. Pray for her - also for their car which is undrivable because of extensive damage from a mud hole.

From the Kerem-El (God's Vineyard) congregation in Carmel,  Dani & LouAnne Syag, Yonatan  Arnold and Stefan & Keren Silver, they are excited for the flowering signs of Spring again in Israel. They are happy for the easing of covid restrictions which are allowing small groups of 10 to meet together, and rising to 20 in a few days.  They have begun 12 small groups for a "Journey of Truth" study. They have also been able to purchase 3/4 of the media equipment they need for recording future ministries, services, and studies of Kerem-El —and they have already begun to bear the fruit of salvation through their video teachings.  Please pray over these issues, also for some health issues within the congregation, for complete healing and strength to persevere with the uncertainty of treatment. Please pray for the financial support of this congregation. See Giving options.

Canary in a Coal Mine? | Arrows from Zion 1_30_2021

Canary in a Coal Mine?
Foreword by Donna Diorio

Israel is often referred to as the proverbial "canary in a coal mine" which is a reference to how miners used to take a canary in a cage down into the mines with them because if there were air quality problems, the canary would die before the men's breathing would be affected.  As I was reading the update from Evan Thomas about what steps they have had to take to keep their congregation connected as the novelty of Zoom meetings has worn off, I started thinking about what would happen if circumstances developed where we were not allowed to meet in congregations?  The practical steps that the Beit Asaph congregation has had to turn to reminded me of that "canary in a coal mine" description of Israel. The way things are going politically in the United States, covid or not, there is much uncertainty about how much "return to normal" that we can reasonably expect.  — D.Diorio

Beit Asaph Congregational Update
by Evan Thomas in Netanya

We trust this finds you well and 'weathering the storm' as we enter 2021, many of us in severe lockdown conditions as our governments and health authorities do their best to combat the Corona pandemic and its effects on our nations. All of us face enormous challenges in the year ahead, not the least the Body of Messiah.

We cannot be seen to be mere spectators of events as they unfold. We have a call on our lives right out of God's Kingdom to make the Comforter known to a world that is in great distress. We hope this report will be a help to make known the needs as we pray for and encourage one another. You are all sincerely appreciated and remembered here in our corner of Yeshua's vineyard in the House of Israel.

“Sacrifice thank offerings to God, Fulfill your vows to the Most High, And call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me. Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me And to the blameless I will show my salvation.” Psalm 50:14, 15, 23 | These verses from Psalm 50 are among many that teach us about two key

elements that honor God in our lives in times of distress…A grateful heart and a willingness to call out to Him for help. Paul’s letter to the Philippians (4:4-7) emphasizes for us, Yeshua’s followers, these same two points.

Those of you receiving this in NZ or Australia may find it increasingly difficult to identify with those of our recipients in Scandinavia, Europe, the UK or the USA, or even with us here in Israel. Maala and I thank God daily for your relative safety “Down Under” with summer conditions and firm governance that keep the Covid-19 pandemic under control. This gives us enormous peace of mind.

Corona Update: Here in the Northern Hemisphere the situation is dire. We are presently in the grip of winter with all its “bugs” and in many of our nations, less-than-satisfactory governance has greatly added to our distress. In Israel we are in the midst of our 3rd lockdown, which will be extended every two weeks while the daily statistics remain high. Currently new daily case statistics exceed 10,000and January’s death toll is expected to exceed 1000. Increasingly, we know more and more people testing positive and this week three of our families are in quarantine with the virus having been brought in by their children from kindergarten and primary school.

We realize that for many of you the vaccination issue is extremely controversial and the Body and society is divided (also here in Israel.) To date over 2 million Israeli citizens, including Maala and I, have received their first inoculation; this is followed by a second, three weeks later. Tests indicate a 95% effectiveness two weeks after this second booster shot. Approximately 150-170,000 people are being vaccinated daily as more virulent strains of the virus emerge. Please pray for the health of our nation.

Because international tourism is one of our primary industries, the Israeli economy is severely stretched. It is heart-breaking to see so many businesses closed. Our political scene adds to the national distress as we face a fourth round of elections in the coming months. With the PM facing criminal charges if he loses and many new parties emerging, outcomes are impossible to predict. Please pray for strong, resolute and righteous leadership.

As we reported in our October newsletter, our first task upon our return home was to do a full evaluation of the congregation. This required phone calls to every home and daily elders meetings. As indicated, most of the community were keeping the faith and actively finding creative ways to fellowship. One of greater concerns was the spiritual well-being of our large numbers of small children and youth. To our joy we discovered that parents of young ones were taking responsibility for their children, praying and having bible lessons with them and arranging field trips with other families. What a relief and answer to prayer.

In reality, since early March last year, Shabbat services have been limited to four gatherings in July with only 50 people each time following the protocols of wearing face masks, temperature checks at the door and seating 2 meters apart. This hiatus was short-lived and we had to resort to virtual meetings with YouTube worship and messages and Zoom prayer meetings. Over time, however, interest in using social platforms for larger groups has waned and we have had to rely more on our home-groups to provide physical fellowship and social interaction. Every day Maala and I invite couples for Zoom meetings to encourage one another and pray together. Smaller groups seem to work much better and we thank God for the internet; we cannot imagine the situation should this privilege be taken from us.

What does the near future hold? Evan and Lev’s interaction with other pastors around the nation, in both Jewish and Arab communities, shows a general trend of finding creative ways of keeping connected with their flocks. Some are live-streaming services and conducting prayer meetings and bible studies via Zoom. But by-in-large, most are waiting it out, holding onto empty facilities and hoping to return to, “business as usual” as soon as physically possible. Some pastors report that their flocks are beginning to drift away…An important subject for prayer!

In Beit Asaph we have decided to be pro-active. Our ‘reading of the signs’ indicate no end in sight and in fact our sense is that the situation will worsen here over the coming months. The pandemic and all its political and economic

implications may not be the only challenges ahead. As a result, we have begun a process to lead the congregation through a major paradigm shift, meaning shifting the emphasis from collective Shabbat services (impossible anyway under current conditions) as the primary life of the congregation, to a system of “Life-groups.” We would like to close the contract on our large facility and seek something much smaller and closer to the city center. This would serve as a multi-purpose community center – for prayer meetings and training seminars and an outreach hub. We certainly will look for a space where our Youth could congregate and classes could be held for the children once restrictions are lifted. The space will also house a pastoral office and central administration.

Once collective gatherings are permitted, life-groups can meet together for intermittent celebration services. Our yearly calendar certainly allows for many such occasions, whether on special Shabbats or around the Feasts. But most important at this juncture is the development of the Life-groups and much effort has gone into their design and function. They will remain small (maximum of 10 members) and weekly meetings will contain the basic elements of worship, prayer, study of the Scriptures, and the Lord’s Table. As well as providing ‘life support’ for its members, a fundamental goal of each group is to reach out and grow and then create new groups. Pastoral work for Evan, Lev and other senior lay-workers will be focused on training and discipleship of facilitators and of course they will be far more mobile. Social media apps will support communication within the life-groups and more broadly as a congregational network. Fortunately, the circumstances of this past year has raised our skill-sets and the networks are well-established! Despite the current lockdown the groundwork is well underway.

Groundwork: Key couples and individuals are meeting with Evan and Lev on Zoom to pray and discuss the strategies for the Life-groups. Time is of an essence as we prepare to help people back into a fellowship framework.

Meanwhile, negotiations are taking place with the owners of the building Beit Asaph currently occupies. They have approached us knowing we cannot continue to economically sustain the facility. Meanwhile, another company has shown interest in the space we rent and we pray we can finalize details and close contract in the very near future. Our third track – to find and establish a suitable community center is also being undertaken. Our plea to you all is to partner with us in prayer – so that we would be like the “Sons of Issachar who could wisely read the signs of the times and then know what to do!” Exciting times!

I believe we have provided you with considerable material for prayer. For those of you in NZ and Australia receiving this appeal please find time during your summer holidays to remember your brothers and sisters living in distress. And those of you living out your faith in the nations of the Northern Hemisphere and sharing in the distress of the raging pandemic, our hearts go out to you. Your brothers and sisters here in Israel pray for you and your communities. Be well, stay safe and above all, keep the faith! Evan and Lev (for the Beit Asaph team)

Arrows from Zion Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries by subscription only donna@israelprayer.com

Continuing the prayer letter from Immanuel Church & Outreaches led by Najeeb & Elizabeth Atteih, they write that despite corona lockdowns, the refugee families they have been ministering to in nearby countries have had open hearts that God has made them able to touch long distance through Zoom ministry and humanitarian aid. They were also able to provide locally for people of every type in their own community who desperately needed groceries, for the holidays and for everyday need. They ask for prayers and for help to continue to bless as many as possible.  In Armenia, with 5000 dead soldiers from the war, the widows and children are crying out in great desperation. They write, "Please continue to pray for Armenia and pray that God would send help to her people. " Write them for donation information at immanuel.haifa@gmail.com  Continue to pray for their ministry to Arab IDF soldiers and also for Osta, who is lost in grief over the death of his young son to cancer...pray God will speak to him so his faith is not buried with his son.

Evan Levine is over the moon VIDEO Big News! with the response to their call to support the HaTikva House, an emergency shelter home for traumatized children that they have now been able to sign the documents to purchase. This ministry that seeks to bring hope to the need of Israel in the name of Yeshua ministers to the needs of believers and unbelievers - they also have found some unusual ways to do so like this HaTikvah House, Dental clinics, Foster Care & Adoption, and other humanitarian aid projects.  Learn more at the website

Danny and Tammy Meyuseff's primary source of income, an organic Israeli product line of olive oil, anointing oil, date honey and Balm of Giliad, has been shut down, because Israel has not allowed tourists in the past year. (This has hurt many whose ministries & personal income depend on tourism.) Their products fund their humanitarian support and ministry to widows, orphans, single parent families, so needless to say it has been greatly challenging for them. they have still been able to minister to people in desperate need (I wish you could read the two testimonies they sent in their letter). People with terrible problems ...and so many more they would love to be able to help.  Pray for them as they continue to minister to those God brings their way. Also they ask prayers for their children, a son who works as the spokesperson for a Messianic organization in Israel, his wife who works for a Messianic publishing house; Their daughter & her husband that run the Yuval Arts Messianic center of worship and arts. All their grandchildren and youngest son who is in need of guidance and direction from God for his life and future.

From Michael & Dina Beener in the Ir HaHaim, or City of the Living, congregation - their name is derived from the opposite of what Hamas calls Sderot: City of the Dead.  Between Hamas rockets and religious persecution, this congregation has its hands full, but they keep helping their needy fellow residents in the name of Yeshua. The latest religious persecution " in addition to the hateful messages, threats and insults by telephone, the incursion into our building, the publications against us in local media and the lies instilled in the population about us," recently their security cameras caught religious man writing "Death to the Missionaries" on the entrance to the ministry. And another episode many religious persons barged onto their Bible Bus Tour warning the attendees they must "take care of their Jewish souls" from the missionaries ,among other things, trying to persuade them to take distance from us...Read more online click. The Beeners are also working with people who are living in tragic hardships. If you can help they are looking for Christians and Messianic Jews in the Diaspora for partners.

In Tel Aviv, the Dugit Messianic Outreach led by Avi & Chaya Mizrachi is doing so much to reach Israelis (you can see their outreach areas online)but as Israel has been hit so hard by Covid unemployment above 20%, nonexistent tourism & 53% families with declining income, they  see care for needy families & the homeless going up.  Even with the Good News going out in the 130 hours of ministry videos in Hebrew, they are pushing to do more and more to held. One of the ways is by partnering with other Israeli ministries like the pro-life ministry in Jerusalem , Be’ad Chaim; and an Arab/Christian congregation located near Ben Gurion airport, Ramla Church; also Ima's Cookies, that shares "care packages" of baked goods in the name of Yeshua to IDF soldiers. They are also helping the Christian Arab Soldier’s Center provides soldiers with food, toiletries, and a hot shower & the Good News to all who will listen. They are also are helping out the Sderot City of LIfe congregation. Can you help them? As they press in to help others? sow a gift of any amount
