The 10 Days of Awe: From Yom Teruah/The Feast of Trumpets through Yom Kippur/The Day of Atonement, is a time dedicated to prayer and repentance, teshuvah. It's also a time to ask forgiveness from anyone we have wronged and to forgive those who may have done us wrong. In Christian thought, we believe we are forgiven once for all, and we are, but in the parable of Matthew 18, we are shown that our need for forgiveness from God is ongoing and to keep receiving God's forgiveness, we must be forgiving of others with no exceptions. So even from a Christian perspective, it makes much sense to have an annual time to reflect on those we may need to forgive, in order to be clean and clear for what is coming next. We need to forgive others and may need others to forgive us us and it may be necessary to ask for them to forgive us if the Holy Spirit brings them to mind. It is this time of reflection we are now in the midst of: the Ten Days of Awe. Awe of what? "Behold, the fear (akin to awe) of the LORD, that is wisdom and to turn away from evil is understanding."

The Torah (Law of Moses) calls for an appointed feast on the first day of the seventh month. "Leviticus 23:24: “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing (teruah) (of trumpets), a holy convocation." In Hebrew it is Yom Teruah, a day of blowing / sounding (also called the Feast of Trumpets). The idea is of blowing trumpets (shofars in Hebrew) with a sound of teruah. Although this day is popularly known as Rosh Hashanah, “head of the year”; this is not a biblically correct name, and may serve to divert attention from the meaning of the holy day, which is a prophetic warning connected to the blowing of the trumpet.
Why
Trumpets? | The full meaning of this feast is not described in the Torah.
The rabbis note three main themes: Remembrance / memorial | Kingdoms | Shofars.
These themes are somewhat correct and can be derived from following the blowing
of trumpets throughout the Scriptures.
(Note that trumpets are blown at
the coronation of a new king – something noticed by the rabbis and very
pertinent to the Gospels, but not mentioned often in Christian literature.)
The Holy Day of blowing the trumpet in the seventh month is a symbolic event. However, the full understanding of the symbols only comes in the last book of the Bible, Revelation. The book of Revelation describes the prophetic meanings of the Torah symbols, such as the shofar / trumpet. Revelation “reveals” the hidden meaning of the parables of the priestly symbols.
Trumpets in
Revelation | There are two basic parts of understanding the prophetic meaning of
the trumpets in the book of Revelation. One is found in the first part of the
book, the second in the second part of the book. Both have to do with
hearing and proclaiming the prophetic message from heaven on earth.
These two meanings simply are:
Exhortation to the Ecclesia (chapters 1-7) and Warning to the Nations
(chapters 8-16).
The sound of the Trumpet is a
metaphor for the voice of God. In
chapters one and four, Yeshua speaks and it sounds like a trumpet. He speaks
with a “loud voice” (In Greek this is megas phone. The trumpet is God’s
“megaphone.”) Although God’s voice is loud and clear, not many hear it, because
not many are listening.
Revelation 1:10 “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet”
Revelation 4:1: After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”
In chapters two and three, there is a challenge to “hear” what the spirit
of God is saying. All prophetic trumpet-like words are general and universal
for all those who are part of the true ecclesia of God, both Jewish and
International. However, in the middle chapters of the book of Revelation, there
is a series of seven shofars blown during the time of tribulation.
The seven trumpets give a
symbolic reference to the seventh month of the year when the Feast of Trumpets
is held, the seven days of the battle of Jericho, and the seven years of the
end times tribulation period. These seven trumpet messages are a warning to
the nations of the world of the immediate tribulation judgments, and of the
soon coming final battle of the day of YHVH.
With each trumpet, part of the
plan of God is revealed. Each trumpet releases the understanding of the
prophetic mystery of God, and the events themselves. The last mystery is
released at the seventh trumpet.
The Seventh
Trumpet | Revelation 10:7: “But in the
days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the
mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.”
Each trumpet blast announces a
judgment on the nations. Each reveals a mystery. Each warns the nations that
they have to submit to the governing authority of God’s king, Messiah Yeshua.
All the trumpets call the kingdoms of this world to submit. That is the
mystery. That is the prophetic message. The seventh trumpet is the full
message.
Revelation 11:15 “Then the seventh
angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying, ‘The
kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ,
and He shall reign forever and ever!’”
Each trumpet judgment changes the
world; each changes the kingdoms of this world.
The first set of trumpet messages
are exhortations from God to the ecclesia. The second set of trumpet messages
are warnings from God through the ecclesia to the nations of the world.
The general messages are to us. The prophetic messages are through us.
Our Positioning | As part of the process, we become like the shofar. We become the mouthpiece of God to the nations of this world. We are to cause spiritual change in the kingdoms of this world by the power of the Holy Spirit, the authority of King Yeshua, coming through our praise, prayer and proclamation. As we pray during this Feast of Trumpets, let us listen to understand what God is saying to us and what God is saying to the nations. His megas phone (loud voice) will change us and cause a change in the kingdoms of this world. We can expect great changes to happen, both to us as the ecclesia and through us as the ecclesia to the nations of the world.
Let’s not only celebrate the day of trumpets. Let’s become the trumpet of God. Let’s be His shofar. Let’s hear God’s voice and be changed. Let’s proclaim the word of God and see the kingdoms of the world changed. Let’s do it now, at this Day of Trumpets.

Heart of G-d Ministries, Carolyn Hyde tells of her faith-stretching
experience on 9/14 when she was hit twice in a vehicle accident, consoling the
hysterical first driver to hit her, then after ambulances took the two drivers
who hit her away, she began to suffer from a stroke. An ambulance came for her,
but en route to the hospital was also involved in an accident and they refused
to give her the immediate asperin called for in those who have had strokes
before! But praise the Lord, once in the hospital Carolyn had 7 separate
instances to impact others with her faith because of being in the accident and
hospital.
She writes, "I believe I’m alive today because Richard sent out an urgent
prayer request and the L-rd answered all your prayers - wish I could give each
of you a hug of gratitude! As I lay in the hospital for four days, I wondered
if I should've traveled a different route but the L-rd said I was exactly where
He wanted me to be. As I continually beseech Him to send me into His harvest
field according to Luke 10:2b, He allowed this for His glory."
Carolyn, in typical Jewish mother fashion also writes, "Please pray for our sons and the Media Team. Avi was in the ER last week and Ariel believes the timing of these attacks is connected to the release of our pro-life series of videos. We are so glad that Richard arrived safely back in Israel and we look forward to a family day together after he finishes with his quarantine! Joel Jelski of Fields of Wheat, Eitan Shishkoff's vision for a dedicated place and facility for the body in Israel to come to fellowship, serve each other, worship together, sent in an update of his becoming an official employee of Fields of Wheat. See the video of Eitan after a meeting with the Jelski's and the Archer's about the future of FoW. There is a transfer coming of how to donate to the Jelski family, as there was last week with the Archer family. In the meantime a special 1-time gift to the Jelski's would be greatly meaningful to them at this time, as it is for the Archer's as both families are in new homes in the Golan Heights where the FoW ministry will be based. Things to pray about: for the Katzir Youth last gathering of 2020 since the others were not possible due to Covid; and for Teresa, a medical issue that keep getting delayed because of covid.
Rania Sayegh, the Christian Arab leader of the House of Prayer & Exploits in Nazareth, writes to say they also have had to delay their Deborahs Arising Conference until 13th and 14th November because of the virus. Listen in to one of pastor's wives who gives a short video her testimony about one of Arab women's conferences. They are still raising funds to subsidize those who will attend from the Christian Arab community. If God puts it on your heart, they really need more monthly financial partners. Santoro writes about the new Corona lockdown, "The
situation here, instead of improving as we had all anticipated, seemed to be
getting worse. In the spirit, I felt as if the enemy had stabbed this nation in
its heart and it was bleeding profusely. It was very disturbing. And then as I
was praying one day, the Lord reminded me of His promise; if we will trust Him
in everything, we will receive His peace."
Jackie writes, "Overall, it's been a time of uncertainty, confusion, anger
and great disunity here in Israel. The virus numbers have been going up
steadily, there was concern that the hospitals were reaching their limit on
serious cases and there was great pressure on the government to "do
something.... Israel is small and very homogenous, and as a nation, we do
everything together and at the same time. It's always been a unique and
charming characteristic of this country. Although an attempt was made to just
restrict the areas which were excessively high in the virus numbers, it was
unsuccessful and as a result, the whole country had to abide by a lockdown. Please
join us in praying for this nation. Pray for unity above all, that the leaders
would walk in wisdom and with strategy from heaven to combat this incredible
situation with the pandemic.... These are truly awesome times! In this year of
5781, may we align ourselves with the purposes of God as never before and may
we feel His presence each and every minute in our lives as we walk through
these uncharted roads. "
The Carmel congregation led by Dani and LuAnne Sayag sent out a notice
that their 9/22 live-streaming of the Tuesday worship watch had to be cancelled
- more Covid interruptions. They will be modifying the watches in coming weeks.
Meantime, they sent two Yom Kippur stories, how Dani was affected by Yom Kippur
from an early age, and Rita also shares how the 1973 war reached out an
impacted her on the Yom Kippur that year. Both stories were good to read, how
God deals with each one of us to bring our attention to Him in our lives. The
congregation is calling a fast from 9/21-28 that others are invited to fast
with them in for personal sanctification, spiritual awakening and healing in
our cities and countries, and protection of Israel and wisdom for our
government leaders.
They offered some practical "options for fasting | Total fast;
liquid fast (fasting from food but not from drink); fasting one meal during the
day; Daniel fast (avoiding foods such as meat and sweets); fasting from
entertainment (such as television, internet, etc.) If you desire to join us,
may the Lord show you what is best for you and your health."
Guy Cohen of the Harvest of Asher congregation in Acco sent his weekly teaching which you can read on his Facebook page, this week it is a teaching about the fast of Yom Kippur
Gil Afriat of Tiferet Yeshua in Tel Aviv sent a VIDEO Special Declaring the coming of King Messiah from the Mount of Olives. It is a "mo'ed" an appointed time of seeking the Lord, soul searching and repentance. Also a outstanding insight about the preparation of a shofar that parallels with our own experience walking with God in this VIDEO Parable of a Shofar with Mordechai Cohen (Asher Intrater voice over translating). Very powerful.
Shani Ferguson writes for the weekly prayer points for Maoz ministries
(and I think she has been somewhat 'reading my mail' when she talks about some
who are up in years whose "life didn’t turn out the way they’d hoped.")
Her story of the grocer 'getting it' that he was blessed more than the highly
paid exec's who have lost their jobs because of covid, because grocery worker
is still needed and able to continue working. (My work in virtual isolation
continues too.) Her prayer points concerned the Lockdown and the Protests, she
says drawing a difference between the kind of protests going on in the US and
the kind going on in Israel: "Israelis understand that the existence of a
modern state of Israel is not a given. Should Israelis take to the streets to
“tear down the system,” they are all too aware that they could wake up in an
Islamic state."
Another astute observation regarding the difference in the Abraham Accords that
differs from the peace treaties with Jordan and Egypt "largely because
they are educated with the Islamic ideology that Israel stole
Islamic/Palestinian land and mistreats Arabs. This explains why Israelis didn’t
dream much about having peace with other Arab countries." But Shani notes,
" Behind the scenes, five years ago UAE’s Prince Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum (MBR) dismissed the Islamic school textbook writers and hired modern,
knowledgeable scholars. These new textbooks have rapidly begun changing the
nation’s attitude towards Israel. Between that, the never-ending Palestinian
dilemma and the Iranian threat, the Mid East is screaming for a change in the
power structure. Subsequently, others like Saudi Arabia and Oman have opened
their airspace to Israeli traffic. And already, nine other Arab/Islamic nations
are considering a warm peace treaty with Israel." We cannot underestimate
the power of indoctrination in schools that spills out into the thinking of a
whole nation.
Recently, President Trump recognized that Critical Race Theory was being taught
to indoctrinate all branches of the federal government has it has been taught
on our college campuses and he signed an Executive Order banning it from any of
our federal agencies, military etc. In this, the indoctrination to hate based
on racism disguised as anti-racism training, the Palestinian Islamist playbook
of decades has unfolded on US campuses for at least 2 decades if not more.
Another of the many parallels in the USA to how Palestinians have strategically
opposed Israel.

Writing for Tikkun Global, Ron Cantor notes that liberal judicial activist Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg or the US Supreme Court passed away on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. This ties in with his new book coming soon called, Birth Pangs, which they are offering for any $30 donation to Tikkun. Ron also wrote Israel’s COVID Lockdown coincides with Fall Holidays. "Israel started August with the goal of getting new coronavirus infections down from 2000 to under 500 by the end of the month. Unfortunately, we have gone the opposite direction, hitting over 5,000 on Tuesday."
