A Sad Commentary | Arrows from Zion 6 11 2021

A Sad Commentary

by Donna Diorio

Anytime I hear a version of what Mike Evans just said, I know the Christian has gotten their priorities totally screwed up when it comes to God’s desire for Israel.
We heard almost exactly verbatim last year from Laurie Cardoza-Moore but instead of saying Israeli voters screwed things up for evangelicals, she was saying the ones screwing things up were the Israeli Messianic believers and those who align with helping Messianic ministries fulfill their calling before God to be witnesses of Yeshua in Israel.
My conviction is that because neither Evans nor Moore have had any connection to the believers in Israel, neither of them understand God’s greater purposes at this time in Israel.  That matters to me as I think it should matter to all pro-Israel Christians.

However,  I must say that to the general Israeli public— including the Israeli ministries who have commented on Mike Evans terrible outbursts against the new Israeli government— all  they are hearing is Christian antisemitism.  Mike Evans would deny he is guilty of that, but his ill-advised railings have most Israeli Jews saying and thinking, ‘We have seen this kind of anti-Jew sentiment from Christians before,”  like from Martin Luther for example!  Mike Evans may consider his statements to be purely political, but he fails to appreciate how Jews are hearing reverberations of classic antisemitism.
Truly, no matter how hard any Christian has worked on behalf of Israel, we do not have what is framed in legal terms as “standing” to dress down Israeli citizens over whom they have elected to lead them. We just don’t. We don’t live there and it is not our decision, no matter how caught up in the politics of Israel that we might be. We are not going to have to live under the government they have elected.
As you know, I’m not one that thinks it is spiritually off-limits for believers to get involved in politics. I believe it is our duty to be salt and light in our own nations on every level. But we can only be that in the nation where we live, not imposing our views on those who will have to live with whomever they elect.
I also see that many news commentators writing about Evan’s comments are attempting to insert their personal dislike of Donald Trump into it as having a negative anti-Semitic influence on Mike Evans. That is also political rhetoric and entirely unfair political ploy. Trump didn’t say all these things, Mike Evans did. Many in the Jewish world paint Trump as a magnet for anti-Semites. In reality the American Left is the magnet for anti-Semites, not Donald Trump. Mike Evan’s failings in this respect are on his own head, not Trump’s.
After so many years and so many coalitions falling apart, voting over and over again, Israelis wanted to try something different this time. Even many of the Israeli believer-ministry leaders I know were ready to see Netanyahu go, many of them for the same reasons the general Israeli population was ready to see him go: Netanyahu has been giving excess power to the religious who are a burden on the general public.
For Messianic citizens of Israel or those hoping to be citizens of Israel, many of those religious party leaders are intricately involved in creating systemic persecution of the believers in Israel.  For example in the institutionalized persecution within the Interior Ministry that tries to kick out Israeli believer-citizens  by revoking their citizenship, and also working to keep all Messianic Jewish believers from immigrating and getting citizenship.
Frankly, with the rise in antisemitism throughout the world, including in the USA, I would think God would want to remove that potential exclusion of believers from Israeli citizenship - regardless of how much Mike Evans feels he has sacrificed himself for Israel. Clearly he has not sacrificed as much as the 20,000 Messianic believers in Israel.
Evans should repent and recant the unwise vows he has made. I do believe that when Christians love the Israeli Messianic community and are aware of how they oftentimes persecuted by religious activists WITHOUT losing their love for their countrymen and nation, that it gives a more Heavenly perspective on what God is calling us to in loving Israel.
Many Christians who do not know about (or care about) the 20,000+ believers in Israel in over 200 Israeli Messianic Jewish congregations, fellowships and ministries, cannot understand the “no strings attached” love of Israel that God calls us to. Knowing the believers in Israel and their walk in some hard places gives us a greater capacity to love Israel and keep God’s desires for Israel foremost.

P.S.  I just had a great talk with one of the most well known family names in the Messianic community, also in Jerusalem, who urged me to urge my readers — and especially any of the leaders among you — to speak out publicly that Mike Evans is speaking for himself, not for the rest of us. They also urged Christian leaders to reach out to Bennett-Lapid government to express our continued Christian loyalty and support of Israel. We need to put a strong emphasis on this because currently all Israel is reeling with angst over Evans’ outbursts. If you would like to read it for yourself, see Evan’s Times of Israel blog

*CORRECTION  Last week I described the new coalition government in Israel as “Leftist” and a trusted friend there wrote to tell me that “is the terminology of Netanyahu and those who are trying to create an atmosphere of division and fear in our society. And…it cannot accurately be called ‘leftist’ since there are parties from the right, the center, the left, and the Arab-Israelis as well.” I take his point. It is almost impossible for anyone to understand the rhetoric occurring in a pitch political battle because from afar one can only pick up bits and pieces.

Arrows from Zion
Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries

Shani Ferguson has written an excellent piece on the uproar that was created by Mike Evan’s vitriolic statements against the new Israeli government, writing: “ Living outside of Israel, it is easy for people to form opinions on the governments they don’t live under…. while I appreciate many aspects of Netanyahu’s leadership, local believers have suffered greatly because of the political authority he gave the ultra-religious parties in his government. And contrary to common belief of those abroad, the majority of Israelis didn’t vote for Netanyahu and his party. Only about 25% percent of Israelis actually voted for Netanyahu which is why he was unable to build a coalition.” She also writes, “…you should know that only in the last couple of decades have Israelis begun to trust evangelicals as allies. They have hundreds of years of reasons not to trust Christians and this wound can easily be reopened with foolish outbursts like the one in this article.” Shani also puts in prayer points to pray for the stability of the new “coalition of left, center and right politicians including the first Arab party to join a coalition. Some of the agreements made include a budget to invest in Arab communities—many of which are overrun with crime, lawlessness and poor education. It also includes the agreement to pass no laws that will increase the influence of the LGBTQ community in everyday life. In addition, with no ultra-orthodox members in this government, everyone is watching what anti-orthodox Avigdor Liberman, the expected Minister of Finance, will do to the massive budgets that have been sent to fund the ultra-religious community for decades.”

The Tikkun Global ministry also issued a statement regarding Mike Evan’s letter to the incoming Israeli Prime Minister in which they state Evan’s letter can only be described as “crude, rude and arrogant. This has been in most major newspapers here in Israel, Hebrew and English.” They also write, “As Messianic Jews, citizens of the state of Israel and Zionists, we have to reject not only Mr. Evan’s words, but his tone. It was one of the poorest representations of Christian love to Israel that we have ever seen; and yet, from someone who has given his life to serve Israel. Such meddling in Israel politics is not appropriate for evangelical clergy. Furthermore, Mr. Evans' claim to represent all evangelicals is simply false.” They also share that “Mr. Evans issued an apology yesterday, just before he gave a rambling speech and press conference that only raised more questions and red flags, and continued to attack Naftali Bennett…. He treated the Israeli reporters quite rudely. He allowed them to ask questions, but didn't answer many. It was a spectacle. watch here.

Asher Intrater gave a detailed look at the issues involved in a government with Netanyahu, which I cannot find online anywhere, but here are some comments, after spelling out the various leaders in this new unity government and some of the issues posed: “These are not just political issues, but spiritual ones, about the future of the nation, and the heart of the inner dialogue among the people; Jew and Arab, religious and secular, right and left.  Throughout the Bible there is an interaction between the Prophets, the Priests and the Kings.  It strikes me that today there is a spiritual connection between what we see going on in the Israeli government, and what is going on in the unseen world of angels and demons. There is also a symbolic connection between the Israeli government and the Church ecclesia…. recently we have been going through a particularly turbulent time in the Middle East. And many of these conflicts are reflections of a greater spiritual battle with significant prophetic implications. Therefore, I do want you to be better informed. Perhaps some of these "shakings" are actually the results of all the increased prayers for Israel, the Church and the kingdom of God.

David and Josie Silver, Out of Zion Ministries 6/4 and 6/8 David's Latest Video Update on YouTube and Prayer for Israel Zoom meeting every Tuesday 9 pm Israel time - 7 pm UK - 2 pm EST -  6 am NZ -  4 am OZ  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82351582826 (Passcode: 146188). David also shares a commentary on What is Behind the Dramatic Rise of Anti-Semitism? He writes, “hatred of the Jewish people is most accurately Anti-Messiah or Anti-Christ….The truth is you cannot separate the nation of Israel, Zionism or the Jewish people - they are all deeply inter-connected…. What so called 'Anti-Semitism' is really all about - it is about destroying Israel and the Jewish people, to prevent the return of Yeshua to rule over the Kingdom … on Mt. Zion.”

Avner Boskey weaves together these three strands Elisha's arrows, Sauron's eye, and Ahithophel's counsel  in addressing the fast breaking, never boring, news from the Middle East.

Rania Sayag of the House of Prayer & Exploits writes about praying for the people appoint to the new unity govt coalition to be people of integrity.  Also, she was “reminded Rania of the Love Revolution of 2018 when Arab and Jewish women handed out roses in the streets of Jerusalem. We are currently talking with Messianic and Arabic congregations in the land to repeat the Love Revolution but this time in every town and city! Please pray for wisdom, timing and unity.” Their upcoming Arab Deborahs gathering is currently is session: please pray over them. Messianic Orna Grinman will also be sharing at their gathering. Also for the work on their guest house and search for a new building. WATCH as Rania joined Paul Wilbur, David Damian, Asher Intrater and Sarah Singerman in a roundtable discussion.  See the newly redesigned website.

Ron Cantor is pretty excited about all they are getting done at Shelanu-TV reaching thousands and thousands of Israelis with original programming including testimonies fro sabras (native Israelis) like Reuven Doron, Sarah Lieberman and Guy Cohen. Cantor writes, “The Jewish people brought you the gospel, through Jesus the Jew, and of course, the Jewish apostles who spread the message from Israel to Antioch to Rome. But now it's the Jewish people who need to be reached. And this is a great way to say thank you to Israel for giving you the gospel. Again, the data tells us, that every dollar we spend on social media reaches 100 Israelis…. Who's going to watch the video you sponsor? It could be a rabbi in Jerusalem, it could be a homosexual in Tel Aviv, it could be a settler on the West Bank or it could be an Israeli Arab in Haifa. Let's reach them all together!” Donate here

Gil Afrait who leads the Tiferet Yeshua congregation in Tel Aviv writes they are adjusting to new routines now that Israel has lifted all its covid restrictions and they are able to all meet again in the building at one time. Pray for all to re-connect with their local fellowships and congregations. There was a baptism last month of a young man who has been in discipleship, and a meeting with a new seeker, also a young man, who accepted Yeshua as Messiah and Lord. Pray for them and for the awakening of Israelis to seek the truth of His Messiah. Pray also for the continued financial breakthrough: they have been able to raise $75000 of the 100,000 commitment they need for the congregational rent. That leaves $25,000 in commitments they still need to raise for 2021. Can you help?

Norma is someone I have tracked for many years in Israel—someone who have been deeply involved, most often behind the scenes of so many important ministry works, not the least of which is the first 24/7 prayer house in Jerusalem, the youth ministry camps of Katzir and lately providing refreshing to the women in ministry in Israel. I was very touched reading one of her latest blog articles, incline your heart because it really communicates her tender heart toward people who need God’s touch so desperately. Have your tissue at the ready when she speaks about the 5-year old she came into contact with during her days as a speech therapist decades ago in Texas.  It is a good message on how to keep yourself in the love of God.

Guy Cohen, who leads the Harvest of Asher congregation in Acco, also wrote an excellent article for his monthly letter called “The Friend I Trusted.” It is about the surprising riots on the streets of Acco and other cities throughout Israel where Jews and Arabs had before lived in harmony. Guy writes that in the aftermath, “ Unfortunately, a lack of trust surfaced between Jewish and Arab neighbors after these riots. We, the leadership of the believing community are the priests that stand before God representing the people. I believe we have failed in this area. Especially when the leadership of the believing community here in the land were more focused on our differences, causing division and lack of attention to God’s heart, His people.  I see that the period of instability in the land, beginning with multiple elections and disunity and now leading to riots in the streets is connected to and began with the division in the leadership of the Messianic Body in Israel. Only when we will put our differences aside; coming in humility to wash one another’s feet will we see change.  As for the mixed cities, those spiritual leaders who serve Yeshua; both Arab and Jew must come together standing in the gap for our cities. We must stand in a place where the blood and body of our Lord is ever before us. A place where His blood continually cleanses all iniquity. For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. 1 Corinthians 10:17

Lastly, and I think this is so important that I am including everything that I included in the Weekly Summary.

Ron Cantor
The "scandalous" story of Euodia and Syntyche | If you have been following me for any amount of time, you know that we've gone through a great trial here in Israel. No, I'm not speaking about Hamas, nor am I speaking about the persecution that we experienced when we birthed Shelanu TV. I'm speaking about an attack from within.

About five years ago, some brothers brought some concerns about our doctrine within Tikkun (network of leaders with whom I serve). This led to accusations of dishonesty, that we preach two different messages, one in Hebrew and one in English (never entered our minds)—and even suggestions that we might be heretics. When the entire eldership of the Messianic body came together to discuss these issues, a certain individual was invited to give a message—our main accuser (we were not invited to give a message ??). One of his points was that truth trumps unity. He accused us of wanting unity at all costs—even at the expense of truth. Of course, this is nonsense.

Most people obsessed with heresy hunting have little patience for unity, reconciliation, or anything that can be interpreted as ecumenical. So, because we place a high value on Scripture's admonition to "make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit," we were accused of not placing the correct value on truth.  Let me be clear, without the truth of God's word, we are utterly lost. It is the truth of God's word and Yeshua's work on the cross that has brought us from darkness to light. Yes, the truth has set us free! (John 8:32) One of my greatest pleasures in life is to spend hours in deep study of God's word—truth. It seemed as if we were being accused of not loving truth sufficiently because of our love for unity and peace.

So, what does the Bible say about unity? The "scandalous" story of Euodia and Syntyche.

Footnote: Please continue to pray for unity in. the Israeli body, as this issue is still not resolved and probably won't be until October. I can honestly say that I am glad for it. While we were not guilty of the accusations against us, it did help us see where we communicated recklessly. We did have things we needed to correct. So, whatever the outcome, I am grateful for the process, even if it was flawed.

Israel’s Election & the Harvest
by Donna Diorio

By now you may have heard that in the latest election in Israel Netanyahu has been ousted and a strange combination of Left and Religious Center Right now hold the keys to power in Israel – if the Knesset final vote holds.  This short summary is to hopefully guide our prayers so we are not praying against what God is doing in Israel at this time.

Netanyahu is beloved by Christians and many Messianics outside of Israel, but he is not so beloved by the body of Messiah in Israel. The main reason for that is because Netanyahu's alignments with the religious-right parties give excessive and undue power against the Messianic Jewish community. They are given power to exercise oppression of believers. So Bibi is beloved because he protects Israel from external enemies so well, but that is not the only thing God is overseeing in Israel. We need to see the spiritual parallel in that! Because Christians are all too often single-focused about protecting Israel and turning a blind eye to the body of Messiah in Israel being thrown under the bus of religious opposition to the Gospel!

Every once in a while, like a tea kettle on the fire, steam is hissing loudly and God has to move in and take the heat off of the followers of His Son, Yeshua, in Israel. That's what God did in the elections of the Israeli Left's Yitzhak Rabin in 1992, Shimon Peres in 1995, and Ehud Barak in 1999. I believe that is what God is doing now and probably the number one reason Netanyahu has been removed from power. It is the second time God has removed Netanyahu from power when he allowed the religious opposition to Messianic grow out of control.

Know this: God is the protector of Israel and Israel's existence will not be allowed to be wiped out. Even if bad decisions are made when the Left is in control—remember Oslo—but God is also focused on protecting the Israeli Messianic community of Israel because they are carrying His mandate of the Gospel in Israel.

So when it means wrenching power from leaders like Netanyahu so the religious persecutors do not feel they have free rein to stalk and oppress the believers of Israel, God lets the "steam" off through the election of the Left.  We have to see that God is ALWAYS going to move on behalf of the Israeli Messianic believers because they are all the stands between the ultimate salvation of Israelis and the demonic hordes of hell determined to destroy Israel and keep Israel from Yeshua's salvation. We need to see this is the 'end game' in all the elections and politics surrounding Israel, and put the spiritual goal of God before everything else.

An important reprieve is that the leadership of the Interior Ministry will be taken from religious hands, but the bureaucracy is still programmed to years of persecution of Messianic believers. There will still need to be prayers made to break up the institutionalized persecution within the Interior Ministry against Messianic believers.

Arrows from Zion
Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries

A good report from Gil Afrait who leads the Tel Aviv Tiferet Yeshua congregation: They put out an appeal a few weeks after losing a major donation – the $100,000 commitment that covered the congregational rent in their budget for 2021. As pastor Gil said, “It was scary…but we had no other choice but to trust God, whom we know has called us to shine the light of Yeshua in Tel Aviv. We chose to turn to our friends, believers around the world who love Israel and want to contend for her salvation as watchmen on the walls. And you responded!”  His update is that they have received $55,000 in pledges of support toward the $100,000 needed to cover their rental —so only $45,000 more in commitments needed. Would you be one to commit to help. As Gil writes: “Despite the challenges to the gospel in Israel, Israelis are seeking and coming to faith in numbers we have never before seen. Healthy local congregations, like Tiferet Yeshua, are critically important.” Amen to that!! Here also are some Exciting Harvest Testimonies

The HaTikva ministry led by Evan Levine is one I really love because they not only do outreach among the unsaved, but they also help the needy among the believers in Israel. Now I know that in Western thought if a believer is needy it is assumed they are doing something wrong spiritually. I don’t believe that is true in Western Christian societies and I KNOW it is not true in Israel! In Israel, there are so many factors that make believers subject to poverty and need that it is quite uninformed to have such a off-base view of the root of their need.  If you know enough about the conditions of believers in Israel, then you would be delighted to know that this is a ministry that will help believers in need as much as they will help unbelievers —and they do outreach in some unusual and innovative way. Cody and Liat Archer with Fields of Wheat in the Golan Heights announced the birth of their 3rd child, a daughter they have named Eden (very fitting name seeing the vision of Fields of Wheat, like a garden —Gan Eden or Garden of Delight, where Adam and Eve walked with God).  Mazal tov to the Archer’s! Their prayer requests are for both of them to be strengthened physically, mentally and spiritually in this season and for our son Elisha to adjust to having a little sister and that he would not be jealous. Also for the heated situation in Israel to cool down and for God's kingdom to be advanced through it all.

Sally Shiff, who is an intercessor and the English-speaking liaison for the HaMayaan congregation in Kfar Saba (led by Tony and Orna Sperandeo, sends a wrap up of the hostilities with Gaza that are quelled for now. She also has exciting news about the re-opening of Israel to tourists. Already a limited number of closed and pre-arranged tourist groups will be able to enter Israel | From July 2021, individual tourists will be able to enter Israel subject to several criteria (restrictions involving a negative corona test before flight & a vaccine certificate, and a serological PCR test upon arrival at Ben Gurion).  Sally writes, “Let me know when you are coming as our guest house is already scheduled for Sept and October.”

From the Hebrew-speaking congregation in Arad, Hasdey Yeshua, a testimony from one of their congregational teachers who was caught in a dangerous situation during the uprisings as they were surrounded by Bedouins who attacked the vehicle he and others were traveling in to work in Beer Sheva. “I seriously thought that I and those with me were going to die. I’m still getting flashbacks.” Their Bedouin driver talked his way out of the first attack, but in a second barricade he had to take “daring and dangerous” action driving through a barricade as fast as possible to escape the crowd shooting and throwing rocks at them. One of the women in the group was so traumatized she has not been able to return to work because of PTSD. They ask for prayers for their congregants and for all others who have been traumatized by the surprising explosions of street violence across Israel. As you might imagine, this has also cut off their ministry outreach to the Bedouin, especially women, in the Bedouin villages. The women are very desperate for help, but it has been too dangerous to resume so far. All the unexpected street violence has opened the hearts of people to hear the Gospel. Pray for much fruit. They will give a report on their search for a permanent congregational home next month.

Pochtar writes about the Unstoppable Force of Kindness as they minister to the needs of thousands of families and elderly Holocaust Survivors who live under the poverty line and depend on our help to provide even the basic food supplies. Plus the testimony of a woman who took the step of faith in Yeshua Lydia's Story. Last but not least, Pochtar writes “Recent events and conflicts that ensued on the streets of Israel between Jewish and Arab Israelis have revealed there’s so much healing that needs to take place between the two. However, as believers and disciples of Yeshua, we know what that healing looks like. We’ve not only witnessed it, we’ve also experienced it, and that coexistence is real and tangible. It is in the form of loving brotherhood we have with fellow Arab believers in Yeshua in Israel, with whom we pray, worship, fellowship, and minister together to our nation.” Read     Coexistence: A Powerful Reminder that Peace in Israel is Real. Ron Cantor made an appeal last week about a matching grant they received for buying and supplying portable bomb shelters in the city of Ashkelon.  But then they met with the mayor of Ashkelon and said that the real need is to renovate the larger bomb shelters in the bottom of apartment buildings with paint, carpet, televisions and video games. He explained that children can be stuck there for hours at a time with nothing to do. So there will be a shift toward filling this need. As of May 28th they “have raised about $11,000 of the $30,000 matching fund challenge. Every dollar you give to renovate these bomb shelters...and if you've been watching the news, you know how important this is.”  Learn more

Ronit Bender writes about following the leading of the LORD in everyday life to be able to walk through doors He is opening to her for sharing her faith with others. She also gives an update on what happened a few weeks ago when she began experiencing chest pains during an outing. The next day she had to go to the ER with an irregular heartbeat and now has stronger meds, a new cardiologist and an appointment in 2 months to see what else needs to be done for her. She writes, “I covet your prayers!”
God certainly wants Ronit to get the care she needs, so she can continue to impact the many people He brings across her path to touch for Yeshua.

In Sderot Michael and Dina Beener of the City of Life congregation continue to raise funds in their effort to minister the traumatized elderly, children and families. They write, “Sderot residents are gradually becoming psychologically affected by the constant trauma of Palestinian rocket attacks fired from the Gaza Strip towards the civilian population in Israel.” So, not only do they help out with poor in humanitarian relief (read more), they also provide “mental health days” for “a day of rest and relaxation for the elderly in a spa center and thermal water pools, as well as a day of swimming pools and water slides in an amazing water park for families.” This will not entirely cure PTSD, but it goes a long way in helping people unwind from weeks of stress and trauma as rockets are fired on their city. It is a Door opener and you can help. Read more

Shani Ferguson writes in their weekly news and prayer letter, “We are just a few signed documents away from a potential coalition. Granted, only God knows if it’ll last the full term, but honestly, when I heard someone had formed a coalition, I felt relief even before I knew what parties would make up the coalition. I’m sure there are things coming down the pike that as a believer I will find troubling, but I am convinced a flawed government is better than no government. Decision makers whom we can pray for are better than no decision makers at all.” She also shares about anti-Semitism abroad ahead of their summer with the kids in the USA. She notes they are advising their children not to speak Hebrew in public at all on this trip “unless we tell them otherwise.” She writes that, “Some of Maoz’ international branches are experiencing some harassment as well. Protect Maoz representatives around the world—their families, offices and homes. “ This should become a top prayer priority for all Christians, and not only prayer, but we should do all we challenge false narratives in our nations about Israel and the Jewish people in general. In the US, for example, the blame of anti-Semitism is put on an over-inflated claim of rising white supremacy, in reality the rise comes from the Left —from unholy alliances that have formed between American Islamists, Black Lives Matter, Feminists, even LGBTQ of all things!  Many Americans, and many Jews, both American and Israeli, have been deceived by these false narratives.

Midweek Update Video -  June 1st.  From their Silver Family ministry letter they write that they still need prayers for David's knees and Josie's back otherwise they are generally very healthy.  Covid restrictions have continued to interrupt their plans for travel —both for David going out to speak and for believers coming in to the country for their special prayer tours. This takes a toll, as it has taken on all the Israeli ministries, in donor support.  Their children and their familes continue to thrive in their own ministries Stefan and Keren their 3 girls at the Kerem-El congregation where Stefan is a pastor, and Jordan and Limor, Jordan working in a video production ministry. Quiet Desperation or Passionate Involvement?

by Eitan Shishkoff

Quiet desperation indeed describes the lives of many people, especially in today's computer-dominated world of expanding corporations, increasing debt and the ever-spreading divide between the haves and the have-nots. "How then shall we live?" asked the prophet Ezekiel (33:10). This is the ultimate existential question for any generation, but especially our end times' generation. Is there a way out of quiet desperation, a way that forges meaning and purpose when we feel like pieces of drift wood swept along by the tidal wave of history?

“. . . .
It is exactly this passion that we see in Hannah, the barren woman in 1 Samuel 1. Her sense of desperation was anything but quiet. The intensity of her desire to bear a son was so great that she silently screamed her prayer in the sanctuary. Those who have changed Israel's history, have done so through passion for God and His purposes. This was Hannah.

Her situation parallels ours. We tend to feel barren, not bearing the fruit we wish we could bring to Yeshua; at least that's how I feel at times. But the Scriptures say that the Lord had closed her womb. TIMING! The Lord wanted to draw her - and wants to draw us - closer before granting conception and birth. Hannah was provoked by Peninah, the "other" wife, whose ease of child bearing speaks of those who seemingly do not need to rely on God and who can be insensitive to our difficulties. Hannah did not eat, but went to the house of the Lord to weep before Him. She presented herself weak and empty, but passionate in pursuing the face of God. As Rachel before her, Hannah's prayer was ‘give me children or I die.’ When we care about something so much that it represents our very existence, it catches God's attention. “  Continue to read in full online by clicking the title.

Trending: Awakening to Israel’s Significance
by Donna Diorio

For 20 years I have tried to keep an exclusive focus in this prayer summary on the Israeli Messianic congregations and ministries —not every ministry that operates with offices in Israel, but specifically Israeli citizen-Messianic Jewish congregational and ministry leaders. Also Israeli Christian Arab ministries, however due to the need for so many of them to remain anonymous to avoid the terrorists who would try to kill them, I have very much few of those over the years I can feature openly.  I have worn blinders to keep my focus on the Israeli ministries for the large part. Here is why:
Too many Christians, when donating to Israel, feel more comfortable just identifying a large Christian ministry that connects in some way with Israel and donate their funds through them. I am not opposed to Christian ministries connected to Israel, but this is something I know for certain, it is ONLY the citizen- Body of Messiah in Israel who are bringing the Gospel to Israelis. The Christian organizations in Israel, in order to remain in the good graces of Israeli authorities have to promise not to engage in sharing the faith.
For the most part I haven’t known what is going on in American Christian circles or in American Messianic circles either. Many high profile ministers, I have never even heard of because I have only been tuned into Israeli ministries. This determination is based on not losing my single focus of advocating for the Israeli ministries. Why? Because they are the group who have been most ignored by others in our world of the faith. Sure, there is lots of focus from Christians on Israel, but I am speaking about the lack of focus on the household of faith in Israel —the Living Stones, the Temple that is made without hands, the body of Messiah in Israel.
There is only one explanation for the lack of attention to the believers of Israel and that is that the Adversary has worked hard to make them either completely misunderstood or unknown to their Christian spiritual family. The good news is that God will not allow that to continue forever.
Time is running out of the devil’s schemes to keep Christians from seeing the significance of the body of Messiah in the Land of Israel. We are beginning to see the signs of awakening emerging now. We saw it in the explosion of fasting and prayer that Christians entered into on Israel’s behalf in the weeks between Passover and Pentecost. That is one sign, but our prayers must be that this movement does not get sidetracked by those who can only see God’s love for Israel and have rejected God’s puruposes for the Israeli Messianic believers bringing His spiritual restoration of Israel by faith in Yeshua/Jesus.
Some Christian pastors and ministers have been ahead of the curve in awakening to how key the Israeli body of Messiah is. That means they not only understand God intends the salvation of all Israel, but also they understand why the Israeli Messianic believers are so important to the final worldwide harvest of souls.  Mike Bickle at KC-IHop is one of the first that springs to mind. Chuck Pierce at Glory of Zion. Robert Morris at Gateway Church and pre-Gateway, Morris’ pastor, Olen Griffing at Shady Grove Church.  My friend Jim Melnick with Friends of Russian Jewry and LCEJ-N America.  David McQueen at Beltway Park Church in Abilene, Tx Troy Brewer at Open Door Church in Burleson, Tx, and in California, Myles Weiss has been a forerunner of integrating Messianic services within churches to open Christians to Israel, the Jews and Israeli Messianics.  These are all forerunners in establishing connections not only with Israel and Jewish believers in Jesus, but also the Messianic ministries of Israel.
I’m sure I’ve missed many others, but in the larger picture of Christianity, these forerunners are a rare minority. I do think most of them will agree that right now there is a new awakening occurring among Christian pastors. In the case of Gateway Church, it is an awakening that they are actively nurturing. Case in point, the pastors Zoom meeting I hope you will all listen to (1 hour long) and also encourage your own pastors to listen to. It is from Gateways Center for Israel led by Nic Lesmeister.
Lesmeister first became the head of the Messianic Jewish Bible Institute when the baton was handed off by Wayne and Bonnie Saul Wilks a few years back. In January 2020 MJBI was dissolved in order to combine their efforts and Lesmeister’s leadership into the Gateway Center for Israel. I applaud the work and leadership Pastor Robert Morris, Bonnie and Wayne Wilks, Nic Lesmeister and their team are demonstrating in educating Christians about God’s love and intentions toward Israel like the excellent pastors roundtable video above. If you will follow the link you will find other valuable resource videos like,
Beginner’s Guide to Loving Israel. If you want to learn more about “Gateway’s Priority for Israel” you can watch Pastor Robert Morris explain it in 5 videos.
Truly, these are not just nice things for you to look at, but are great for passing on important information to your own pastor.  In fact, one of the points the pastors talked with Nic Lesmeister about in the featured video above was how to approach your pastor about the importance of Israel, and Israeli ministries. They all brought up ways how NOT to do that! One gracious way to share with your pastor might be just to share this video discussion between Nic and 4 senior pastors about their own paths to awakening to Israel. They also discuss some of the real obstacles pastors consider in opening their churches to an Israel focus
—things like the “weird” stuff like people suddenly start doing, like blowing shofars randomly during the service.  That’s the Israel lover equivalent of the out of control tambourine player.
One of my favorite sections was 36 minutes in when Nic brought up to how to figure out what Messianic Jewish ministries to support. Nic said that the usual metrics pastors use to be good stewards of where they sow financial seed into other ministries has to be tossed out when it comes to Messianic Jewish ministries. It is so true! And I liked hearing what the 4 pastors spoke about as their own metrics for choosing where to plant financial seed.
One of the pastors participating, Preston Morrison, said, that he would encourage all pastors not to consider giving into Messianic Jewish ministries as an investment, but to consider it as a gift. “When I make a gift, I’m not making calls asking, ‘How many are you guys running in your congregation this weekend? If it’s an investment, we check in, get annual reports. But the way we see sowing into Messianic Jewish ministries that it’s a gift to family. That doesn’t mean we are just throwing money around, it just means we see it differently. Because if we just look at metrics, the biggest Messianic congregations in the country are 4-500….When we align and give gifts to the ones He loves, special things happen.”
One thing I noticed was that they all seemed to lean toward investing their financial seed in Messianic Jewish congregations or ministries in their own city or region. As soon as I noticed that, I believe God reminded me of the metric that supersedes all others. It is a prophetic truth that EVEN a great many US Messianic Jewish Congregations and Ministries have yet to grasp:
My metric is this: It is counter-intuitive to what people expect, but honestly just because there is greater freedom for Messianic Jews in the United States, nevertheless, the greatest explosion of Jews coming to faith will originate in Israel first, then ripple out to Jews (and Christians) in the nations. That is a major SPIRITUAL reason to support Israeli Messianic ministries. They are the ones who need our financial support the most and whose ground will be the most fruitful to sow into because as Israeli Jews come to faith, it will trigger spiritual restoration of Jews and Christians throughout the nations."

Too many Christians, when donating to Israel, feel more comfortable just identifying a large Christian ministry that connects in some way with Israel and donate their funds through them. I am not opposed to Christian ministries connected to Israel, but this is something I know for certain, it is ONLY the citizen Body of Messiah in Israel who are bringing the Gospel to Israelis. The Christian organizations, in order to remain in the good graces of Israeli authorities have to promise not to engage in sharing the faith.
If you want to plant seed in the best ministry soil in Israel, it is going to HAVE TO BE in the congregations and Messianic Jewish ministries of Israeli CITIZENS - not just Christian organizations doing good deeds toward Israelis, which is fine, it's just not God's highest desire for Israel because that highest desire is that "ALL Israel shall be saved."
For subscribers to the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests from Israeli Ministries and Arrows from Zion, you have an extra layer of information about good Israeli ministries your pastor and congregation can sow into. Each week you are exposed to what is happening in so many of the congregations, ministries and outreaches. Don’t be shy about passing along the information if your pastor is one of those who is just beginning to learn of the significance of Israel and the salvation of the Jewish people. As salvation continues to increase in Israel, it SHALL send out a ripple effect throughout all the nations of the world.

Arrows from Zion
Summarized from the Weekly Summary of Prayer Requests Israeli Ministries
For now the battle with Hamas in Israel has ceased, but everyone knows it is not the last battle. Heaven’s war is still focused on “all Israel shall be saved” and so I am skipping over many prayer letters that came while the battle was still in progress, to share the many that came in afterwards.

From Asher Intrater of Revive Israel an excellent Gaza Conflict Analysis in an age of media flooding anti-Israel propaganda. Be informed so you can set the record straight. Asher writes, “Let me end by saying that in the midst of all these challenges, communities of Arab Christians and Messianic Jews have been praying together in love, unity and peace.  The Arab Christians stand in a place of heroism and faith.  We hold together the hope for a better future.   Please stand with us.” ALSO Peter, Pentecost, and the Prophet Joel (DD: I came to the same conclusions in my article We are in a “Let My People Go” moment only from the prophet Isaiah: Acts 2:16 was the initial fulfillment of the outpouring prophecies. ALSO WATCH the REPLAY of the Shavuot Zoom Prayer meeting

Shani Ferguson writes for Maoz Ministries “Prayer Concerning the Day After” –“While we all breathed a sigh of relief when the ceasefire was called (and we are thrilled to have our whole team back at work), most Israelis are livid that the operation was cut short before a decisive victory could be established. Sure, we took out 60 miles of underground tunnels and 1500 terror targets—and it will take them years to rebuild their terror network—but they are still able to rebuild. Also, the random attacks on the streets haven’t stopped.” She continues, “There’s lots of speculation as to why a ceasefire was called so soon and part of that is that Israel had done about all it could from the air. If they didn’t plan on sending in ground troops, they had pretty much completed their mission. Another factor is that both Israel and Gaza respectively felt a little more of a pinch in their corner when it came to “things to lose” in this conflict.  With the recent approval that allows Palestinians to submit “war crime” cases to the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Israel understood this round would come under heavier—and more ridiculous scrutiny—than previous engagements. Gaza, on the other hand, stood to lose the support of the UAE who threatened that if Hamas didn’t stop firing rockets into Israel it would stop its investment of billions into Gaza’s infrastructure.” Keeping praying. Everyone knows this is not the last battle.

Israel Pochtar continues focus: Restoring What Was Broken - CALL TO ACTION! | Article | Your help and support is stirred and led by God's promise to His people. The bond between believers all over the world and the nation of Israel is propelling this nation forward, even in times when then entire world turns its back on us. Did you know that the small Israeli town of Sderot, less than 1 mile from Gaza with around 30 thousand inhabitants, is the city with the largest number of bomb shelters in the world?! And they need them being that close to the terrorists in Gaza! Hamas calls it “the city of the dead” and that’s why when Michael and Dina Beener opened their congregation in Sderot to minister to the PTSD traumatized Sderot citizens, they called the congregation the City of Life. The terrorists – fueled by the demonic hatred baked into the false religion of Islam —speak death over the Israeliis in Sderot, but the Beeners have dedicated themselves to speak God’s life over them. It is just like what God spoke through the prophet Isaiah 54:17 "No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise to curse you, you shall declare wrong and wicked. This is the inheritance of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, says the LORD."  See what City of Life is doing in War Trauma Recovery Day also in May 9th Victory Day. Consider becoming a partner

Howard Bass from the Beer Sheva Yeshua’s Inheritance congregation writes about the picture of the 2 loaves waved before God during after the first Sabbath during Passover/Unleavened bread. The biblical holidays are full of God’s prophetic message, and this is no exception, as the new grain offering to God of the 2 loaves represent Jews and Gentiles who have been called out by God “to be saved, and totally "baked together" into the one loaf of the Body of Messiah/Christ,” as Howard puts it citing Lev 23:15-17; 1Cor 10:14-17. He also writes, “God will fill us with the Holy Spirit in a measure needed to overcome in these last days the onslaught of evil that we have yet to experience, and to be up to the commandment and task of striving to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace within the redeemed family of God our Father.”  He writes on current events, “As usual, the latest war between Israel and Hamas has led to an increase in anti-Israel, anti-Jewish irrational rhetoric and policies and acts.  In other words, an escalation in blatant antisemitism, the likes of which have not been so publicly open and allowed in the West -- and the US, in particular -- since WW2 in Europe. This antisemitism is not going to abate, but only intensify.”

Howard also wrote some things that especially touched me, because it is not a general warning to Jews to make aliyah, but a very personal one. If you love someone, you will risk rejection to tell them what will save them. Howard wrote, “I have written my extended family, and to my Jewish friends to seriously consider getting their documentation prepared, should the time come that they might need to immigrate to Israel, which now is not at all in their thinking.” Pray for many to hear the call to “Come back, come back, O Israel.”

Ron Cantor writes that they have received a matching donation of $30,000 for mobile bomb shelters for Ashkelon from Troy Brewer’s Open Door Church in Burleson, Texas.  With $60,000 they can purchase 12 portable bomb shelters for this city that is only 8 miles from the border with Gaza, and also vulnerable to rockets from terrorists. This is not the last time terrorists will target Israeli citizens with rockets, because the devil would love to kill as many Israelis as possible BEFORE the good seed of the Gospel being planted in their hearts by the Israeli Messianic Jewish believers can take hold. This is like Pharaoh trying to kill all the babies so Moses can’t be born, or like Herod killing all the babies so Yeshua couldn’t be born. Spiritually this is exactly what is going on against the whole nation of Israeli Jews and we can make a difference in purchasing these bomb shelters and also in financially supporting the Gospel preaching Messianic Jewish and Christian Arab ministries of Israel.

Avner Boskey clears up some matter in his article In every generation the rise up to destroy us. Like me you have probably heard many mentions of rioting on the streets of many Israeli cities that has been a jarring surprise to Israelis during the battle these past weeks from Hamas. That is a generic reference that in this article, Avner gives a deeper look into the details of exactly why it has been such a jarring and dismaying surprise to Israelis.

Past this point all ministry letters that written prior to the ceasefire

Emmaus Way, Arni Klein writes about the many intense pressures we, and they especially in Israel, have gone through for the past year and half. Even in relatively stable region of Israel, Arnie writes that the challenges have been more on an emotional and spiritual level: “I recently realized that living through the last year and a half brought me to a state of communication burnout….This last year was perhaps the second most trying period of my believing life.”  He writes about “Thirty years ago, the only ones in the Church to receive salary were pastors and administrative personnel. The fact that the reality in the Church conflicted with eternal truth plunged me into a depth of struggle.” Why? Because he saw from Hebrews 11:3 that “The spiritual nature of a work or act is determined by the motivation of the heart. We see this understanding manifest in King David, who raised up and supported a company of Levites whose full-time occupation was to minister to the Lord in the Tabernacle.”  I (Donna) didn’t get it at first, but again he is talking about the metrics we use to not only judge the fruitfulness of other ministries, but from my own experience I know we judge our own ministries to a degree by those same metrics – which really are not the Heavenly metric.  I get exactly what Arni is saying, because when the Levite ministries are not respected and honored for the work of the LORD that they do, it shows up in lack of donations that God commanded for the support of the Levites. When the support is lacking, who does not question their own validity?  He wrote much more, but you will need to email Arni and Yonit to get the full letter.  Also Arni teaching on the subject of Shavuot. And Mazal tov to you guys for the return of you son and his family to Israel after 15 years in Australia.
From the leadership team in the HaCarmel congregation, despite the horrible outbreak of violence from Israeli Arab Muslims and extremist Jewish gangs, they are highlighting that “the great majority of Israeli Arabs and Jews are standing together, with many expressions of love, reaching out to each other in various practical ways as well. Peaceful demonstrations are taking place all over the nation, with Jews and Arabs proclaiming unity and standing against the division, hatred, and violence. There are also believers (and non-believers) who have been miraculously saved out of very dangerous circumstances, as Jews and Arabs are rescuing one another during this time. Powerful prayer meetings have been taking place as well, with Messianic Jews and Arab Christians joining together in intercession, launching “arrows of love” (as one Arab sister described our prayers) into the atmosphere of violence in our land.”

Christian Arab pastors  of Immanuel Church in Haifa, Pastor Najeeb & Elisabeth Atteih, have a much longer email about the various outreaches and work, not only there but in other nations. I have to focus this on their courageous stand as Israeli Christian Arabs who are committed to serving all, not based on racial divides, but based on the love of God through Yeshua. Their son, Tino, serves in the IDF with other Israeli Arabs. They operate an outreach – which is in desperate need of financial supporters –called the Christian Soldier’s Center. It is a refuge to all IDF soldiers regardless of race or religion. They write, “Please pray for our country as it is facing very difficult days....It is difficult for our minds to understand and process the seriousness of the violence and hatred that has accumulated on both sides over the years. Now we are reaping its result....This hatred and enmity is caused by a lack of forgiveness for past grievances. We know that the only solution and hope for healing is found in Jesus Christ....There are innocent people who are being killed on both sides.” They also write, “...there is deep fear of our neighboring countries as rumors and myths are circulating of a coming war in the Middle East. We are praying for divine intervention for our country Israel. Please join us in prayer.  Meanwhile they are doing ZOM outreach meetings “with believers from all over including Germany, Armenia, Holland, Iraq, local Israelis, and refugees from Jordan.”

Eric Benson runs the men’s rehab “House of Victory” connected to the HaCarmel congregation. It too – really like ALL the ministries of Israel — really need financial supporters to come alongside them. Eric recently encouraged their students and graduates from House of Victory with Psalm 119:63 that says, “I am a companion of all who fear you.” Eric writes, “We need to be a community that sets itself apart through this wisdom and the way we live and move and have our being in the Messiah.” This was during a “special meeting with the graduates of our program was a time of mutual encouragement for all who were gathered. The presence of the former students imparted strength and hope to the men currently in our home. Their testimony of victory was an inspiration. As we exchanged our struggles and challenges, there was a release of comfort and joy.”  And, “Through the miracle of a changed life, one can boldly declare the words of the apostle Paul, “Follow me, as I follow the Messiah” (1 Cor. 11:1). It was a beautiful night of fellowship. “ To learn more of this fruitful rehab ministry for men, email Eric Benson

Rania Sayegh, a Christian Arab prophetic intercessor in the Nazareth House of Prayer & Exploits shares a vision she had on May 3: “I saw a bride standing in the middle of a field of wheat. She was wearing a bridal white gown and walking in the field. She was charmed by the field and looking around with joy at the harvest. She had a veil over her face and was looking at this vast field of wheat. The bride looked towards the furthest horizon and began to lift her veil.  As she lifted her veil, the wind started to blow over the fields. At first, this wind blew gently but then it formed a whirlwind over the field. I noticed that the whirlwind got stronger and stronger then began to move and carry the wheat almost as though it was harvesting the wheat. The whirlwind was carrying this wheat into the threshing floor. The whirlwind was not only formed of wind but also angelic beings - the Holy Spirit and angels working together!” Pray that their June 11 Arab Deborahs gathering will be possible – the first in person gathering in 18 months. She also wrote about speaking at the northern regional Bat Zion women’s gathering that is put on by Chaya Miarachi and Norma Sarvis to bring the Israeli women together for refreshing and teaching.

Last but not least I was happy to run across this featuring David and Leah Ortiz in Ariel, in allisrael.com Reconstructing Bridges: The uphill battle to restore Arab-Jewish relations in Israel as Pastors – both Jewish and Arab – are scrambling to counter hate sweeping the nation. It als featured Christian Arab pastor Saleem Shalash, pastor of Home of Jesus the King Church in Nazareth. Watch him in this 12-minute video

My final thought 5/27 Ever since I listened to the Gateway conference with Nic Lesmeister & the 4 pastors discussing supporting Israeli ministries - specifically the part about what metrics do pastors use to judge what is a fruitful ministry in Israel, I have been thinking about what metrics I judge my own ministry in advocacy of Israeli ministries by. Now, in their discussion, Lesmeister said that the usual metrics for determining what is good soil to plant into another ministry has to be tossed out when it comes to Messianic Jewish ministries.
As someone who has dealt with the Israeli Messianic Jewish ministries for the past 20 years I get it completely why he said that. Because the way pastors might judge fruitfulness in Christian ministries would rely on things that just do not translate to ANY Messianic Jewish ministry - big numbers of congregational members, or salvation per month - whatever those metrics are, including how self-supporting they are.
For one thing, it is much easier to be self-supporting as a Messianic congregation in the USA than in Israel, but in the USA 80 to 90% of a congregation might be made up of Christians drawn by God to support Messianic ministries. In Israel that is not the case. The ministries are smaller, and not self-supporting, nor can they be self-supporting in reality.
The revelation God started giving me back in 1992 or so is that Paul knew they couldn't be and that's why GOD SENT Paul on a mission to establish a financial support structure among the churches, then to carry them to Jerusalem even though it was clearly going to end in Paul being arrested.
So I have always known that if I wanted to be Israel-oriented in ministry, where many, many Christians have made a darned good living for themselves, that specializing in advocacy of the Israeli Messianic Ministries sure would NOT be the place to bring in the big bucks of support for my ministry.
It is a good thing that the metrics I set for myself in doing this weekly prayer summary for the past 20 years on behalf of those who are laboring in God's vineyard in Israel is not based on my own ministry supporting me. I would never have made it to my 20th year if that was my metric for deciding if what I had committed myself to was fruitful.

May 17, 2021 Joint Statement by the Israeli National Pastors and Elders of Israel

May 17, 2021 Joint Statement by the Israeli National Pastors and Elders of Israel

Released in five languages, Hebrew, Arabic, English, Russian, and Amharic.

In light of the current situation in which it is expressed in polarization and hatred between Arab and Jewish citizens, we Israeli Jews and Arabs, who share the same faith in Jesus as Messiah and Lord: declare that we are united in brotherly love that is rooted in our faith and based on the Scriptures of the Old and the New Testament, as written John 13: 34-35: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.”
Our hearts agonize at the expressions of violence and hatred in our country, where we all live together and we have no other country. Therefore, we call upon all our brothers and sisters who believe in Jesus our Lord, to practically express our unity in Christ Jesus, in love, in mutual help, and steadfastness, confronting the forces of Satan that are full of hatred. All of these since we have been called to be ambassadors of the Lord, and so that the name of God would receive glory and his son Jesus Christ our Lord would be magnified glorified both in our country and in the world.
Our prayers are that the fighting and hostility would cease and that the peace of God prevails in our land and among our neighbors:
For He himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility. (Ephesians 2:14)
That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:21)

With blessings and hope for quieter and better days,
The Board of National Pastors and Elders
